Hello, my name is Laura and I am a Hannah Montana fan. It all started innocently enough. I would tell my kids to turn it on Disney to see what was on as not to tempt them with inappropriate tv viewing.
We would catch an episode in the afternoon and I would pretend to be working, cooking, etc. After all, I am a grown-up. But now it is official, I am an addict. I find myself watching reruns late at night without the kids. During the day, I find myself flipping from the news stations to Disney hoping, wishing there is an episode on. Events in everyday life is reminding me of episodes. My son and I are quoting Jackson, Hannah or even Rico on several occasions. Yes, I need help.
However, it seems all of us are growing pretty fond of the teen singing sensation. Yes, some more than others-I will admit. Hannah Montana continues to grow bigger with each day.
Her popularity has never been more evident over the last year with sold out concerts, fans lying to win tickets, etc. But last weekend, Montana moved to a new level of popularity – a record breaking level.
Records were broken this past Super Bowl Weekend but not by The Patriots (yes, I threw that comment in for my husband). Hannah Montana reigned in the Box Office ratings with her new movie, Disney's "Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert." The 3-D movie grossed $29 million in its first weekend and garnered a first place spot. The 3-D flick starring the world's biggest teen sensation scored this victory on just 683 specially equipped digital screens.
That makes "Hannah Montana" the smallest release ever to get to #1 (trumping Borat's $26.5 million from 837 locations), the biggest-ever opening for a 3-D movie or a concert film and the biggest-ever haul for a Super Bowl weekend beating the movie "Titanic."
Of course, the catch for this movie is that it costs over $15 to see in most theaters since it is billed as a special event. Not only that, where I live it was sold out the entire weekend much like her concerts have been thus far.
The good news is that Disney has decided not to pull it out of theaters this Friday, but instead leave it until fans lose interest. The bad news is that even though I am an addicted fan, I am not made of money!
Therefore, I am holding out for the DVD.
