I am proud of my country, the United States of America . It is the land where dreams are made and achieved.
It is the land of opportunity and freedom for all.
The price we pay for freedom is by the loss of the great citizens of this land. The men and woman that swear to protect our country from harm, from the violators and the terrorists. Everyone that comes here is afforded those rights.
In order to take advantage of all of the perks to this country, according to our forefathers, all it takes is to become a citizen and swear your allegiance to the United States . If you want to enjoy the freedom, it is a small thing to do. We are not asking that you no longer visit your homeland, give up your acquaintances with family and friends or shun your heritage, we ask that you pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America . The land that gives you the opportunity to have freedom, get a job, pay taxes, collect Social Security when you are old enough, the right to a good education and to drive a vehicle.
Somehow, this has been over looked by many and has now created a problem, for many immigrants. They have come here to work, to make better lives for themselves and their families. Which I see as a good thing and I welcome that. However, the green card for many has long expired; you have now become a new person, an illegal immigrant. All you had to do was renew your card or become a citizen, you have opened your hearts and minds to residing in a country that offers a better life, why not do it legally?
Some say to just pack everyone up, that is here and living illegally and send them back to where they came from. Which, was also my first thought. Illegal is illegal, look the definition up in the dictionary. We, as our fathers before us have made laws to follow, those laws apply to all. You do the crime, you pay the price. These people have experienced the value of a free country, but have slipped through the cracks and have not had to help pay for those freedoms through taxes and such. They have been afforded the amenities that we all struggle to pay for. So, what do we do about this?
The illegal people, have a way of making things right and according to law; they have the choice of becoming a US citizen and joining the melting pot of the world or go home. You know that word, don't you---home. The place that you came from the place that has not offered you government programs, high education levels, prescription drugs that cure almost everything. The place that you came from and in a way, ran away from.
Illegal means; not according to or authorized by law, not sanctioned by official rules. Therefore, according to the laws that every citizen is expected to live by, I would assume that every illegal immigrant has to follow the same rules and laws.
A person running for the Presidency said in a comment just last week, "Do you think that we should just pack them up and take them to the border, they have lived here for many years, created a new life, had children and have jobs. We can't just send them back?" So, after thinking over that statement for a long time, I have concluded that I would be fair and offer the chance to; renew your green card, become part of a statistic of knowing where you are and what you are doing, give you the opportunity to pay taxes and gain a drivers license. I will also offer you the chance to become one of my fellow Americans and become a citizen of the United States , the country that I love. If you choose not to take advantage of this great offer of hospitality and freedom, the plane leaves in an hour, be on it!

I can see the passion in your statements and I feel the same. It amazes me that people do not see this as the bigger issue that it really is. I have been writing to this for years and a check of my articles here and on problogs will illustrate that. I have family waitiing over 20 years to come here legally. Yet, people still vote for the McCains and the Obama's and the Clintons. Yes, all advocates of illegal workers, liberal ideology and free trade. We have sown and are reaping that which we are ignorant of. We will ceratinly continue down this path as long as people are ignorant of what is taking place and they allow and condone. I respect your writings but must ask if you know what SPP is? Well perhaps it is about time us older Americans found out just what The North American Union and SPP is really about. Have you heard of the Common Market? That is why Spansih is being pushed, our laws are broken and they still call these illegal workers "immigrants". With all my sincere best wishes RTM Respond to this comment

Yes Robert, I have heard of SPP, the NAFTA Superhighway and the North American Union, although all countries deny that it is in existence. My question to them is, if it is not; how come our jobs are going to foreign countries, one of which is a member of this coalition?
Lack of information, or the fact, that people don't really 'want' to know is going to be the downfall of this country.
I have heard that it was said, years ago that terrorists and other countries will defeat the United States, from within. I can see that happening now, I feel like I am the only one in the world that see's it!
Foreign money is buying our banks, homes and investments; no one pays their debts back to the US and we say, that is okay, our people don't have jobs, they are all going out of the US and we have poverty in one of the richest (?) countries in the world. In my mind, this doesn't compute, something is wrong.
Thank you for your comment and letting me know there is someone else that see's this for what it is.

Very good article. Another thing I would like to point out is this... to pay for our freedoms sometimes we have to fight. If a draft is ever reinstated, the great people of this nation may have to take up arms to defend it. Illegal immigrants, not being part of the system, will be able to enjoy their freedoms without having to defend it.
Like the saying goes "Freedom isn't free," or maybe it's "Freedom is sometimes free." Respond to this comment

Thank you for your comment Cory, and I agree with you! This must be a good example of another Freedom the United States offers, a 'Free Ride'!
I am hoping that more people take the time to become informed as to how our system actually works and they start to voice there opinions. Last I heard, this was supposed to be a system 'by the people, for the people'; it is too bad that our Senators and Congressmaen and women don't see it that way. Respond to this comment

Well, here's the problem. Those who are coming here are mostly doing so because of lack of work and political persecution. I know dozens of stories of family, friends, and students who've spoken of the dire need to come here to save their lives. My wife came here from Colombia. She had a visa; however, when she got divorced from her then husband she had to go to work, which she did. She was being sponsored by a family for her green card; however, about three years in, they decided not to sponsor her any more. She had paid $5000 for the paperwork to become a citizen but lost that opportunity because two people simply had a change of mind. When she married me, we went back to the same lawyer who told us that since she had paid once already, he would discount the price: $4000. And if you wait to come here legally as you and your children starve, you can literally wait until you die. The INS is one of the most cumbersome, poorly run organizations on this planet. My wife and I went there one day to find the status of the case of her children (I ended up doing the paperwork for her and her kids) because we were told the information was not available online. After three hours of waiting (and me and my wife had gone to meeting after meeting after meeting and waited hours and hours over the course of her processing) the person at the window couldn't simply look the information up on the computer. No, we had to fill out a form and wait. By the time we got the information on the status of her kid's case they had already been here 6 months. It took almost four years to get her children here, a high priority case. Imagine those who are simply filing without family here while they starve or suffer political persecution. I know of students who tell me their grandfather was taken out in the middle of the night and killed by "authorities" without explanation. Most Latin American, Middle Eastern, African, and many Asian countries are run by corrupt, dangerous people. The only choice? Get the hell out and get the hell out now. Waiting on the INS is impractical. It's like telling someone who's starving, "OK, well, take a number, we'll have the sandwich to you within the coming months." Not gonna happen. I hate to say this, as a Republican, but Obama has the potentially best answer. Work with Mexico to strengthen their economy, a tall order, and with the INS to help them run more efficiently. And just because a it's a "law" doesn't make it sacrosanct. In Nazi Germany to aid a Jew was against the law. According to Martin Luther King, a just law is one that squares with the moral or eternal nature and does down downgrade or depress mankind. May we elect a president who fully understands this issue and moves on the solution quickly and intelligently. Respond to this comment

Hi Jeff and thank you for the comment. By the way, I agree with you as far as the lack of organization and as far as the INS and our government is concerned. You can have two people sitting next to each other and have them work for two seperate departments and they can't just turn and ask each other a simple question. It takes months to get an answer! Dumb, Stupid and a ton of other choice words I have for them.
I don't consider your wife or anyone ( that comes in this country under a green card) coming here as being illegal. They have made steps to be legal, achieved it to a point (as far as the slow working government has allowed them to do. I do however, consider those that come over the boarder and don't attempt to become 'legal' as an illegal immigrant.
I also understnd what you mean about starving people looking for a better life. However, there are ways of going about this legally as well. I don't like the idea of people coming here, not paying taxes, contributing to the betterment of the US and only taking the money, taking and complaining because they don't get benefits (last I knew of, we have citizens that also need benefits and have earned the right to get them), and then come along and tell me that we need to change English as the language of the land.
We have had immigrants come here for decades, used their mother tongue, but learned English because they were proud to be an American. A second language is now required in schools, we learn other languages, they learn ours and that is called progress and becoming one nation. A very simple solution is that English is a requirement of citizenship. Now I said English should be learned but it doesn't have to be fluent; but enough that they can give their name address and say hello, maybe even the phrase "I am An American!" would be nice.
Illegal in the dictionary means against the law, not within the law, it is so simple to abide by the laws; every citizen does it.
I also have heard horror stories about people trying to do things the right way and waiting for years. This to me is totally unacceptable, I would like to know what that department is actually using our tax dollars for, if NOT to do the job they were hired for. I do understand understaffing, but lets get real. Years to wait...unacceptable!
I welcome any one from any border that wants to become an American and I will help them as much as possible and I figure that our government should as well.
Now tell me, being that those that are doing things legally, have endured hardship because of it; Do you think that someone that comes over here and takes that persons job away from them, doesn't contribute to keeping the economy going and doesn't have any goal of becoming a citizen, should have the same rights?
Bless those that try and 'welcome to the US',;to the others, 'start walking" and make room for the ones that are trying to become citizens.
I also am in favor of good relations with Mexico to the point of giving them the knowledge of how to change things and showing them how. However, I don't agree with the United States funding that countries change, if that ever comes up. Guidance, knowledge and help is what I would offer. The Red Cross is willing to help with care packages for starving people I am sure. Give them seeds and they will become self sufficient. Seeds to grow food, seeds of knowledge, seeds of a future!
I also think that Obama may be the person that is capable of doing this.
