I live in a medium size town in Northern Arizona and along with the typical deer, raccoon, skunk, chipmunk, squirrel, and coyote we have these wild pigs called javelina. They are the freakiest looking things, like giant prehistoric rats.

They roam freely all over town, usually in groups of 5-10 and they are mean and very dangerous. With sharp teeth that can gut a large dog, which they have done on occasion. They will attack if provoked, not timid by any means.

So the other day this old timer comes walking down while I'm out in the yard and he starts telling me about some javelina he just saw, and he asked me, "You know how to catch 'em ?" to which I truthfully replied, "No."

You put out some corn and wait till they find it, then the next day you put out some more and sure enough they will keep coming back for the free treat. Then you put up a fence row and some more corn. Once they get used to the fence you put up the second side of chain fence with more corn.

After a few days, add the third side of fence and keep the corn coming, those pigs can't resist and by now they're use to the fence being there, so they have no problem with it. Finally you put up the last side of fence with a gate and throw in some more of that free corn, then once they're all inside.....shut the gate.

Oh they'll fuss a bit and rub against the fence for awhile, but as long as you give them that free corn everyday they get used to it. They eventually give up on fighting and completely forget how to forage on their own and accept their captivity, that's how you catch wild pigs.

Now I should have known there was another motive to his story of taming wild beasts simply by his eagerness to tell it to me. That's when he cleverly compared the entire process to all the government hand out programs we have. His point was if the democrats get elected that is their plan.

More tax subsidized free (corn) hand-outs and entitlement programs which, he was quick to point out, is exactly what Clinton and Obama both pledge to do if given the chance. All that "free corn" they promise will make people rely on bigger more expensive, controlling government (the fence).

Oh there will be exceptions to this basic rule of nature, maybe the ones that dig under "the fence" to get away, but how many will simply forget over time how to "forage" for themselves ? Eventually losing the greatest thing this country offers.

The ability to, no matter who you are, or who your parents are, whatever color, religion, shape or size, only in America can everyone achieve their dream. It's not easy, but it shouldn't be. We take it for granted sometimes and forget that it's not like that everywhere.

I don't want to catch no pigs, they may not be all that pretty but they don't need my corn. They can take care of themselves without any help from me.

Well Sue, I'm glad you enjoyed it. And thank you for adding the one missing line. You say I made you smile but that first line in your comment is the best part of the whole article. I'm still wiping tears from the corner of my eyes.
God Bless You
Michael
