The internet is made up of endless lists: the best paying jobs, the best movies to rent, the best cars to buy, etc. Recently while surfing, I came across a list of the ten worst movie couples.
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, Yahoo compiled a list of the worst movie couples. I have to admit that they were right on with all of them. Nick Nolte and Julia Roberts, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, Harrison Ford and Anne Heche all made the list. It got me to thinking, though-who are the best all time movie couples? I decided to make a list of what I thought (not in any particular order).
First on the list is Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in The Notebook. The Chemistry was completely believable. However, the writing in the movie is also phenominal so I could be a little bias.
My second choice is going back in time with Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable in Gone With The Wind. The love hate relationship made them a match made in Heaven. They were one of those couples that looked like they belonged together on screen.
The third is a toss-up between Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore or Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Swayze and Moore made sexual desires come off the screen in Ghost. But Swayze and Grey had great dance moves in Dirty Dancing. So I am not sure who pulled it off with him the best, but it was great acting.
Richard Gere and Julia Roberts pulled off some great chemistry in Pretty Woman. They also were pretty cute in Runaway Bride. They just seem to fit with his endearing eyes and her million-dollar smile, they seems to compliment each other well.
Meg Ryan has to make the list, but I never thought her and Billy Crystal really fit. I would have to say that Meg Ryan was a much better couple with Tom Hanks in You Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle.
Drew Barrymore makes the list but not with Adam Sandler, as if. No, I think the most romantic couple she played in was with Dougray Scot in Ever After. Their on screen presence was very sweet.
I am going out on a limb with this one. I liked Michelle Pfeiffer and Bruce Willis in the Story of Us. Not the most romantic movie because of all the trouble the couple goes through. But they make it work and pull off a very realistic couple. The way Pfeiffer looks at him with the glossy eyes makes their chemistry.
From college, I have to throw in a Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick, Jr. in Hope Floats. The movie was nice, but they just looked like they belonged. With their southern accents and both having great eyes they oozed romance.
Of course, romance is in the air and I am sure you have your own favorite couples. Be sure to list them in the comments. Who knows? I may acquire a new favorite.
