So much of golf is played between your ears. Your mind can win or lose the match for you.  If you clutter it up by not being properly prepared, you will not play anywhere near the best of your ability.

Here are two simple things you can do to arrive at the golf course in the right frame of mind and make it a whole lot easier on the day.

1. Make sure your golf kit is ready

  • Are your golf shoes dry?
  • Have you cleaned the studs from the last round?
  • Have you got all the balls you will (or could) need?
  • Have you got more than one glove in the bag just in case of rain?
  • Have you got enough tees, at the lengths you need?
  • Have you packed the wet weather gear if it looks like rain?
  • Is the umbrella on the bag?
  • What about a ball marker and pitch mark repairer?
  • Have you got a yardage book?
  • Have you packed a towel?
  • Have you remembered a pencil?

And most importantly, are all your clubs ready?  They should be cleaned and packed in the bag!

These seem like all pretty obvious questions. On casual golfing days they are, but on a competition day where your mind is otherwise engaged, a number of them could easily be over looked.  Make a checklist and get your kit ready the night before.  Its one less thing to worry about

2. Get to the course early

There is nothing worse than being in a rush to get to the first tee. You are just setting yourself up for a bad round.

So arrive early. Give yourself time to warm up and get to the first tee in plenty of time. This way you will be relaxed when you get there, and make a far better decision as to what to hit for your first shot.

Be Prepared

There is no point in losing shots through bad preparation!

Run through these few simple things before game and your mind will be more focussed on the task in hand, greatly increasing your chances of a good round.
