This war in Iraq is a sin, needed for our safety or not, which I rather think not. I know of nothing that has been accomplished, and yet so many thousands are no longer with us, their wives, husbands, kids, or families.
As I've heard so many politicians and news people say, "Why didn't he just try talking to them?" I have a seventeen year old and a twenty year old son, and I know their maturity level, being where it should be, and I can't see them fighting in a war. I can further not see them thinking about what they saw for the rest of their lives.
On either side of me there are two boys in their mid twenties who have been in the Army and the Navy, and have been in Iraq. Neither will talk about it. Where do you thinks those thoughts are going to go? Their four years is up, and the rest of their lives is crippled. For what? My nephew was in Iraq. Thankfully, he returned home safely, but I'm sure he has a lot on his mind if he allows himself to think about it. I was very proud of him, but very afraid for him as well. I was proud of my neighbors I have watched grow from little boys, but I do worry about the lingering affects of trying to get ahead.
I was in the car listening to the radio one day, and a song came on about the President, performed by a group called Pink. It seemed to make sense. I personally give her a lot of credit for singing this song, and allowing it to go down in History.
Here are the lyrics:
Dear Mr. President Come take a walk with me Let's pretend we're just two people and You're not better than me I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep What do you feel when you look in the mirror Are you proud
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye How do you walk with your head held high Can you even look me in the eye And tell me why
Dear Mr. President Were you a lonely boy Are you a lonely boy How can you say No child is left behind We're not dumb and we're not blind They're all sitting in your cells While you pave the road to hell
What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay I can only imagine what the first lady has to say You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye How do you walk with your head held high Can you even look me in the eye
Let me tell you bout hard work Minimum wage with a baby on the way Let me tell you bout hard work Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away Let me tell you bout hard work Building a bed out of a cardboard box Let me tell you bout hard work You don't know nothin' bout hard work
How do you sleep at night How do you walk with your head held high Dear Mr. President You'd never take a walk with me Would you
Susan Thom is the mother of three children, two sons, 17 and 21, and a daughter 22. Writing calms her, and gives her a place to go. By herself! Clears the head and gets it out. She lives in a rural area, with a lake and mountains, her son and her partner, and has loved writing since she was a child.
She certainly hopes you enjoy her take on life, and her style of communicating that in stories.
She has been on a journey of self discovery for twenty years, and has learned many things about the human mind, and how to maintain some semblance of calm and peace within.
If someone reads one of her stories, and relates to her feelings, and maybe gets a suggestion on how she dealt with them in a positive way, that would be the ultimate gift of her writing.

Excellent article. George W. will go down in history as one of the most corrupt, heartless, arrogant and inept presidents of all time. And yet we have the religious right on this site defending him and bashing so called "liberal" candidates. These angelic writers hide behind the issue of pro-life (whatever that means to them) and their homophobia ignoring more substantial issues of God-awful behavior. Thanks for a good read. Good Job again Sue. That line in the song says it all "Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me". That sums up evrything that is happening. It is what I have been writing to for years now, the have and the have not. Have not's are assets on a ledger sheet. Sad but true. You just have to go out and do the research and see what many of the elite really think about average people. Best wishes Sue, you are blazing trails and doing a good job, RTM

hi robert,
This Pink did a service to us all, i think, having these words on record (or CD ;)
i admire her for using her beautiful voice and her popularity and ability to reach millions.
the carnage that is going on over "their" is going into our "BOYS" heads. you know, the ones who will someday come home and try to blend back into society. i pray for them, and all they may affect. thanks for reading and commenting Robert,
my best regards,

Susan, I'm ashamed to say I voted for this man the first time he ran in 2000. I voted for him because he promised lower taxes, small government, and a non-interventionist foreign policy. According to Meat Leaf, "two of out three ain't bad," but this turkey George W. Bush only made good on one out of the three. He did okay on lowering taxes and I appreciate that, but under his watch, the size of the federal government has grown exponentially and the federal deficit has massively increased. But, worst of all, is that immoral war in Iraq. What has it accomplished but create more terrorists that hate us? We already had Saddam in a box and he was no threat to us or anyone else. And who in their right mind really believed he had weapons of mass destruction? Not me. Common sense would dictate that, if he had had them, he would have used them. Only an idiot would have believed that "mushroom cloud" scare tactic.
Obviously, I didn't vote for Bush the second time around. Of course, the Democrats nominated that clown John Kerry, so we didn't really have much choice in 2004. I voted for the Libertarian candidate in protest. Respond to this comment

hi terry,
thank you for reading and commenting, i do appreciate it. i think a lot of people were snowed by Bush, and his family History, etc., but he's on his way out, and i think that's what we should focus on. maybe better days are on their way for the American people.
my best regards,
