It should be noted that in almost all cases, the load-bank is a resistive load, which is unity power factor and does not create any harmonics .
Any tests such as these should only be used for a guide as to the current performance of the generator and the full controlled mains failure test with the site load should be used as the reference point as to whether or not the generator with support the site load.
Should there be any note issues when testing the generator with a resistive load bank, remedial action can be taken.
By doing this test as a controlled exercise the site personnel can determine if there are any problems prior to the power protection system being required due to a power failure.
As with any fully installed UPS system and Standby generator power protection system the site must always have the confidence that the standby generator will support the load at any time 24-7. That's the purpose of the system.
If there is the slightest hesitation in confidence, then ask your power protection specialist to come and test the system to prove its worth.
Don't wait for it to fail.
Check, test, report every time.
Service and Maintenance are an integral part of any power protection system.
It may even be a requirement of your building insurance policy to have an annual or bi-annual load bank test of your generator. Always check.
