I can smell the disdain for that title already, it doesn't take much to hear the chants of peace and love coming from the passive group that think, no make that believe, that mankind does have the ability to live together in harmony.
Perhaps there has always been a section of people that hope someday we will achieve this Utopia of holding hands and singing kumbaya. But it's never been more than a section.
Understand, this is not just my opinion, simply an observation of human history. From the beginning there has been war. Be it village to village, tribe to tribe, or country to country, humans fight.
Sometimes it's for some of the dumbest reasons, sometimes it is to extinguish evil. I was fascinated to learn that today, in modern times, there are 80+ wars on this planet on any given day.
I know this is not a happy thought, and realizing the average persons ability to stay concentrated on an intense subject for an extended length of time is hard, I'm not surprised that many would rather not believe this fact.
So why even bring this up ? We're at an interesting time, to say the least. Few if any world leaders have the .....guts let's say, to call the world situation what it is. This is a religious war, and this so called political correctness has hog tied America so bad that, what could and should have taken two months to settle, has now gone on for years.
So what of this peace, people long for. I've read you achieve peace through compromise, or peace through understanding, or peace through dialog. Maybe....but those are ALWAYS extremely temporary.
Long lasting peace anywhere in the world, has ALWAYS been achieved through the knowledge of superior force. Or to put it more bluntly, you don't mess with someone bigger and badder than you. Unless of course you believe they won't retaliate or your just plain stupid.
So what's the answer ? .....Personally, I think it's to late to correct the mistake. I know, some of you are thinking , "the mistake of going to war?" No...the mistake of turning war into a board game with rules.
Anyone notice our enemies have no rules ? Nothing is off limits to them. Nothing.

that was a good commentary of how you feel. direct, to the point,
and unbiased. not to mention truthful. i share your idea, war is
natural, peace is an accident, and i don't know how to fix that.
thanks for sharing yout thoughts,
best regards,

Hi again Sue, thanks for reading this slice of me. you wrote, " and I don't know how to fix that." I don't believe we're suppose to.
The answer may lie between me and Mr. Rock ( the next commentor). The only peace for a human, is found within. My observation was of the outer world. The world we all live in . Reality. A very hard place.
So you could say, your answer is between a rock and a hard place. Inside.

A true statement. There are many who believe that people are basically good. History has proven this so not true! Why is this? It's simple - we were all born in sin. Whether we want to admit it or not. Since the creation of man -God gave us choice - Adam and Eve chose to disobey and every since we have had jealousy which led to murder which led to war. It's not that hard to figure out, it is however, hard to admit and accept responsiblity. It's always someone else's fault. Just look - Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent. Only change in character, faith in God and self discipline will correct the heart of the matter. Just watch, soon, someone will offer the perfect peace plan for Israel, all will fall for it, and for a time there will be peace -but it won't be real and it won't last long. Until Jesus rules and reigns on this Earth, true peace will not happen.
Oh, sorry. I forgot, this is only my response, not my article. :-) thanks again for getting me fired up, you are indeed a gift from God and a great addition to my on-line life. Respond to this comment

Hello, I believe most people are basically good. well....most of the time. Good always, even though it seems only slightly at times, out weights evil.
A lot of your response pertains to my other article "Are we witness to the end." and your final line, there are no words.

Thanks for your frank opinion, I will give you five stars, Mike, for that, however I disagree with you. I will always have hope regarding peace and work toward that within myself.
May all beings be happy and secure;
May their hearts be wholesome.
Whatever living beings there may be,
Feeble or strong, tall, fat, or medium,
Short, small, or large, without exception,
Seen or unseen,
Those dwelling far or near,
Those who are born or who are to be born,
May all beings be happy.

Hi, and Thank you E. I wonder if we disagree at all on this one. I too have hope. Actually, I feel I'm past hope....I know. I've achieved peace and chaos at the same time. As I mentioned in the above response, I feel the only true peace for man is found inside.
And when two of them meet .....well, that's when the Gods smile. Respond to this comment

Michael,
It is not just our enemies that have no rules of engagement. We have no clear-cut rules as evidenced within our current wars. It is easier to focus on the evil of our enemies than to admit our own mistakes. Thanks for a thought-provoking article. Respond to this comment

Hi James, I'm not sure exactly what you mean ? "We have no clear-cut rules as evidenced within our current wars." I truly hope your not talking about Abu Graib ( whatever the spelling?) because, putting underwear on someones head could never be compared with chopping off someones head.
» left by James P Krehbiel(1,469) James P Krehbiel (263 days 9 hours ago.)
How can you not understand? "Underwear on someone's head?", that's some hefty minimization on your part. Even conservative John McCain saw the treatment of our enemies as deplorable and embarrassing. Our horrible treatment of prisoners served the purpose of exascerbating negative global feelings about our country and spiked anti-American sentiment which may keep us in Iraq forever. Even our Attorney General still lacks the guts to call waterboarding unconstitutional and torture. Come on Michael! As one of your articles indicates, it sounds like you went from one extreme to the other. Whatever happened to the word politically moderate? Respond to this comment
» left by Michael Kocis(1,182) Michael Kocis (263 days 8 hours ago.)
James, first I want to say, with no sarcasism, no anger, no ill feelings, that I really want to understand ( not necessarily agree, but understand) how you view this.
Having said that, myself, I don't think of McCain as a true conservative, and I think he may have just been saying what was expected of him ? ? I don't know. As for negative global feelings, I couldn't care less. Give me a country that hates us ( other than china, russia, north korea, or iran ) and I bet we sent men, money and the American Flag to pull their butts out of the fire in the past.
Waterboarding- you bet ya. tell me your mission in life is to kill those I love and care about and that you know of others that will carry out said mission. I'll get it out of you. plus there have been only 3 times it's been done.
That's one thing I never understood about McCain when he said, Torture only makes our enemies that more likely to torture our men. What ? ? ? Korean Death March, VC torture camps (he was in one) Islamic freaks with torture and rape rooms. THEY ALREADY DO IT ! It's their way of life.
You said what ever happened to politically moderate ? ? ? I have no idea what you mean. I'm not politically correct, not politically moderate, or politically limp. I'd like to see politically realistic. You rape a kid, we cut it off, you cross the border, we send you back, you get a sentence of 15 years, it's not 6 & 1/2, you kill someone drunk driving, you never drive again. You don't want the military in your city, they leave...with ALL Federal funding. You want to live in America you will learn to read, write and speak English.
There's probably more , but I think you get the idea. I just don't understand James, can you ( in a civil way) explain it to me. I know things are far from perfect, I just don't see how adding more crap to the pile changes the smell.

Michael, it happened-I knew it would. We have found something we don't agree on. :-) I really do have hope for peace and I know that good outweigh's the bad, I don't want to sound like a pesimist, beleive me I have a strong sense of hope - but I can't get away from the fact that we born naturally to the selfish and bad. Just look a small child. They don't have to learn how to be selfish, or to lie, or to bite and throw a tantrum when they don't get their way. It comes natural - what they do have to learn is how to be selfless, kind and gracious. Be blessed and have a wonderful evening. Respond to this comment

This is beginning to turn into one intense relationship Theresa, The example of a small child is interesting. You pointed out that they do not have to learn to be selfish, lie, bite, or throw tantrums....that it comes naturally.
Are you sure ? You made me remember the children in russian orphanages. I have a relative there that visited some of them. They were never held, or talked too. These children don't lie, or bite, or throw tantrums, matter of fact they don't cry, or speak, or smile. they just are.
Maybe in some weird way , we do teach these things to our children. But because everyone does, we call it natural? I don't know.
» left by Teresa Ortiz (262 days 19 hours ago.)
HI Michael, your point is well taken. And I agree and consider those babies and children in those environments. You are correct in saying they do not do the things I mentioned. And, yes, my heart breaks for them and I know God has special grace and place in his heart for them. Like I mentioned to someone else, I don't pick and choose what I believe in the Bible. It is either all true or all false. But that's just me. As far as us teaching our children to do these things, I don't recall ever biting my child or someone else in their presence at age 1, nor did I teach them how to throw themself on the floor of the mall at age 2.
As far as your last statement, "because everyone does it we call it natural? I won't speak for anyone else, but for me it all goes back to what God says. If he said we were all born in sin, thus the need to be born again by the Spirit of God, then I believe him. Otherwise,...well, that is a whole other subject. Didn't mean to take the topic of your article in another direction, but it did fit.
Peace, love, friendship and all that other great mushy stuff to you my friend.
