One of the biggest trends for women today is the vintage women's apron. Most of our grandmothers used aprons as a part of their daily life. They wore them every day in order to protect their clothes, and found many other uses for them as well:
1. Using as an oven mitt 2. Holding clothespins when hanging laundry on the line 3. Drying the tears of little ones with skinned knees
Today aprons are experiencing quite a resurgence. Homemakers, working women, and single girls alike are feeling nostalgic for aprons. Though some women have taken to collecting authentic antique aprons, from their mothers, grandmothers, and aunts, many others have discovered the benefits of contemporary aprons that are made in the vintage style.
There are a number of companies making these aprons, and they have some truly adorable features. Some of them actually look like a dress, which you can wear over your clothes. This is a really great way to dress up your look without having to actually dress up. You can even wear a black tank top or fitted tee with black pants, and wear the apron over it. It is a fun way to meet company if you are hosting an informal dinner.
Some other vintage style aprons have ruffles, bows, and other feminine details. They come in a full apron (called a bib apron), or a half apron which ties around the waist. Most of them come in a wide variety of printed fabrics, including beautiful florals, fun polka dots, serious stripes, and many more.
Sporting a vintage apron is also great for doing housework. Don't feel guilty for wearing it for such a mundane chore. Aprons were made to be worn! And a cute, ruffled apron just might encourage you to "whistle while you work."
