This is an age old question that has been brought up man times
before. As we are in the Easter weekend, I am also left wondering who
people really think He is.
I have heard reports that many people say that He was not the
Messiah, that He was simply a prophet and that many are still waiting
for the Messiah to come. Some Jewish people feel this way as well as
some other religions. Some say He was Elijah, or John the Baptist
reincarnated as was written in the Scriptures.
I know who He is. I have experienced His love for me several times.
I have even felt Him wrapping His arms around me to comfort me. He is
my Lord and Savior. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the Wonderful
Counselor, the Prince of Peace, the King of all kings.
No matter who you think He is, He will forever be the Messiah…whether you believe in that or not.
Some people deny that He was even crucified on that Cross. I have
heard that some people think that He was replaced by Judas Iscariot on
the Cross. How wrong they are.
"Early in the morning all the chief priests and the leaders of the people decided to execute Jesus. They
tied him up, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate, the governor.
Then Judas, who had betrayed Jesus, regretted what had happened when he
saw that Jesus was condemned. He brought the 30 silver coins back to
the chief priests and leaders. He
said, "I've sinned by betraying an innocent man. They replied, "What do
we care? That's your problem." So he threw the money into the temple,
went away, and hanged himself." Matt 27:1-5 (GW)
People deny Jesus all the time. The people in His hometown denied
Him and ultimately His own people, the Jews, denied Him and crucified
Him. They were willing to have His blood on their hands and on their
children's hands. I just don't understand such hatred for the truth.
However, Jesus being crucified and Him rising again in three days is the core of the belief system for the born again Christian.
I was a part of a Good Friday service last night and we sang three
songs, one of which was a song called Via Dolorosa. Beforehand, I
introduced the song and I mentioned how every flog, every lash upon His
back was our sins being put upon Him. Every step that He took on the
Via Dolorosa (the path where He carried the cross on His back) was a
willful conscientious choice to take on those sins of ours. He was
willing to do the will of the Father.
So, why was He crucified? Because He wanted our sins to be forgiven
in the eyes of God. He wanted to become the mediator between God and
us. That is how much love He has for you.
Can't you see? There are many movies about this but my suggestion
would be to either watch "The Passion of the Christ" or "The Gospel of
John" and you can see for yourself how much love Jesus has for us. I
personally watched "The Passion of the Christ" before last night's
service. It helped remind me of what Jesus did for us upon that Cross. |
