We as Americans originate from all over the world. Our constitution's preamble begins with the words "We the People"
With the exception of the native Indian, none of us can truly say we are natural citizens. i.e. We all have roots of our family tree originating from other parts of the world in other foreign countries.
However, our constitution has declared us all as a whole people. With laws that apply to every one of us as American citizens. We are a united people conceived from a bold new ideology of freedom. We have come to call our fusion of immigrants as a melting pot.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth century, the metaphor of a "crucible" or "(s) melting pot" to describe the fusion of different nationalities, ethnicities and cultures was used together with concepts of America as an ideal Republicanism republic and a "city upon a hill" or new promised land. It was a metaphor for the idealized process of Immigration to the United States immigration and Colonization of the Americas colonization by which different nationalities, cultures and "races" (a term that could encompass nationality, ethnicity and race) were to blend into a new, virtuous community, and it was connected to utopian visions of the emergence of an American "new man". The exact term "melting pot" came into general usage in 1908, after the premiere of the play ''The Melting Pot" by Israel Zangwill.
Although our constitution declares all me are created equal. This belief does not eliminate any nationality regardless of race, color, or religion. True our religions may very in our beliefs in God however, we all have the freedom to believe in (or) disbelieve in a God as we choose.
The so-called melting pot I speak of here produces as citizens a unique breed of people. For all the good, bad and ugly are derived from this melting pot. From our birth, we are a result of the ideals of our founding fathers.
Our means of surviving in this country (making a living) is the same in all countries. Money is the tool we all base our lives on. Although our dreams may vary, the means of acquiring our daily bread is the same in all of us.
It seems in the 21st. century we are now at a peak of our evolutionary process. (I am not referring to biological evolution but rather an unfolding of our existence) we have come from an aggressive past where we were engaged in world wars and conflicts in other parts of the world and today we still use war as a means of defending our country. .
With our modern technology, we have learned a great deal about our existence (as a human species.) Why then are we not able to live together in peace and unity?
I say speak to our enemy our politicians keep giving us the notion these terrorist are just plain evil. I believe our politicians are hiding from us the true reason we are at war. If we truly believe all men are created equal, then let's get on the peace process and negotiate with our foe.

Wow...wouldn't that all be beautiful. Two things that stand out (for me anyhow) "All men are created equal" well maybe at the moment of birth or more likely "in the eyes of God."
Sounds pretty doesn't it...all men ...equal. Hell even the guys who wrote it didn't believe it or didn't understand it. They had black slaves, only land owners could vote, and there was probably more, more that's enough for now.
Talk with our enemys, some of them O.K. sure that might work reasonable folks talk'n it out, again sounds good, could work. What about the ones sworn to their God to destroy all that are not like them ?
Wait...first you'd have to believe that's even true. Let's see...goofy enough to strap a bomb on your a$$ and blow up yourself & other people ...yep. I believe it.
There are some people you can't "talk" to, not me or you Dave, or a President, not their mommies or daddies cause they are well..."Crazy." Respond to this comment

True Mike our constitution had flaws in it, President Lincoln pointed this out in his most notable speech “The Gettysburg Address” and true we are equal biologically but not by the essence of our nature. The melting pot is how all of us the good and the bad are blended into one being by our laws. I still believe we could negotiate with our foe, every man’s actions has its motives behind them. Calling them crazy isn’t the way to get through to them.

David,
Great article. I hope that we can work with our enemies, rather than labeling them, ie. "axis of evil" etc. If we can't, we are in deep trouble. Thanks. Respond to this comment

Thank you for commenting James, yeah Bush and his axis of evil. He should focus on the evil right here in this country first. Respond to this comment

Well Ken, we seem to behave as though we know right from wrong. Although we still have a lot to learn ourselves. Respond to this comment
