Many of you will only be in Barcelona for a few days, visiting Barcelona on a short break for a long weekend, or as a stop off as part of a cruise or multi-city European tour. Below we look at the best way to see Barcelona in one day.
One of the great things about Barcelona is that the transportation is simply excellent. Barcelona has a metro system which will pretty much take you everywhere in Barcelona that you will need to go and the fares are very low. Barcelona is also full of taxis and the fares reasonable and if you are confident enough, the bus service is also good. If you have only one day in Barcelona then your best bet in fact would be to get a day ticket for the Barcelona City tour bus service. You can jump on and off the buses as many times as you want and at any of the stops. The buses take you to all key places in the city and a commentary is given on the bus. The hop-on, hop-off system works well and as long as you get up early enough and make full use of the day this is a great option.
The key areas of the city I would recommend include the beach front, the marina, Montjuic, Gaudi Park, La Rambla and Sagrada Familia. You could fairly easily do a circle of the city, starting off with Montjuic and visiting the castle on top of Montjuic and also taking a moment to view the whole city of Barcelona and the marina and sea front, from this high point. The Olympic stadium can also be viewed on Montjuic.
You could also then hop onto a bus to Parc Guell where you will find Gaudi's House and a beautiful park to walk around. There is also a caf here and toilet so you might want to use this spot for a brief break and to sit in the sun for a few minutes. Then you could hop back on a bus and head to Sagrada Familia which is a quite stunning church which has taken 100 years in the making and is still far from completion. You can go to the top of the Sagrada Familia and the view of the city and surrounding area is very good.
I would then recommend jumping on a bus down to the beach front and walking around the boardwalk and marina areas. There are dozens of restaurants selling sea-food and if you are a fish eater you will be in heaven.
