"The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself." Archibald Macleish

Truly, we live in a great nation where the guidelines of a great work were established: The constitution of the United States.

We have learned through our nurturing as children, the rules and laws established and set forth by our founding fathers within the confines of our judicial system, we are also nurtured with religious beliefs mainly from our parents, or guardian.

Although we may dissent from all we were taught in our younger years. This only strengthens our beliefs when we ask why and search for answers which make sense to us rather than just excepting what was handed down to us by previous generations.

Those who dissent against established law are those who distance themselves from the norm of everyday living. For living within the system can be enjoyable and rewarding if you choose to live by the standards set forth by our monopolized bureaucracy.

(This excerpt taken from wikipedia encyclopedia.)

Dissent is a sentiment or philosophy of non-agreement or opposition to an idea (e.g. a government's policies) or an entity (e.g. an individual or political party that supports such policies). The terms antonymous include agreement, consensus (when all or nearly all parties agree on something) and consent (when one party agrees to a proposition made by another).

Dissent may be expressed in many ways. In some political systems, dissent may be formally expressed by way of opposition politics, while politically repressive regimes may prohibit any form of dissent, leading to suppression of dissent and the encouragement of social or political activism. Individuals who do not conform or support the policies of certain states may be described as "descendents," or in extreme cases, "enemies of the state"

Several thinkers have argued that a healthy society needs not only to protect, but also to encourage dissent.

In a well known letter to Arnold Rouge, Karl Marx wrote: "if constructing the future and settling everything for all times are not our affair, it is all the more clear what we have to accomplish at present: I am referring to ruthless criticism of all that exists, ruthless both in the sense of not being afraid of the results it arrives at and in the sense of being just as little afraid of conflict with the powers that be."

Rosa Parks, set a good example of positive dissent for she would not conform to the established laws of her day, which degraded her race for the color of her skin.

"We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it." Edward R. Murrow

Rosa Parks in 1955, with Martin Luther King Jr. in the background

On December 1, 1955, Parks became famous for refusing to obey bus driver James Blake's order that she give up her seat to make room for a white passenger. This action of civil disobedience started the Montgomery Bus Boycott,
