Do you toss and turn all night long, constantly trying to change position to be more comfortable? Does this leave you tired in the morning, barely able to crawl out of bed and certainly not energized enough to start your day off with a boom? If you answered yes to either of those questions, it seems you are having a problem with your sleep environment. If your sleep environment isn't up to par, you won't be getting quality sleep and your energy levels will pay the price.
Aside from getting the right amount of sleep, the sleep environment is key to a good night's rest. You could be getting 8 hours of sleep and still wake up feeling tired and groggy. This isn't a problem with the amount of sleep you're getting but rather the quality of sleep you're getting. To ensure the best night's sleep possible, and give yourself a chance to face the next day like a champ upgrade your sleep environment.
First things first, make sure your pillow is up to par. If your pillow is over 18 months old, toss it. Microbes build up and can double to weight of your pillow within an 18 month period. Aside from your pillow being flat and lumpy with age, this just isn't healthy.
Once you've found the proper pillow, take a look at that mattress. How long have you had it? Is there a hole in the middle where you normally sleep? If you constantly roll towards the middle while you sleep, its time for a new bed. Expensive yes, but in the long run you'll be glad you did it A good mattress is the best way to ensure a good night's sleep.
Lastly, try to keep noise and any other distractions to a minimum while you sleep. Of course, this is the most difficult. No one can control the neighbor's kid screaming at the top of their lungs or the argument that takes place right outside your apartment window. In this case, I suggest buying yourself a good pair of earplugs. You'll sleep soundly through the night and wake up in the morning ready to take the day by storm.
