Twenty-five miles northeast of Austin, between Round Rock and Taylor, Hutto is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state of Texas.  Out of 1500 cities and towns in the state, Hutto has experienced the most growth with its current population of 12,000 representing an almost 1000% increase since the year 2000.

Much of the expansion is due to the new highways throughout the north side of the Austin Metro Area. Running parallel to I-35, you have Hwy 130, a new toll road running from Seguin (NE of San Antonio) to Georgetown, cutting directly though Hutto. After the new roadways opened in late 2006, Hutto commuters are able to get anywhere in Austin within 30 minutes. Prior to the highway, the same drive would of been at least 45 minutes to an hour. Many other roadway improvements in the area have this town positioned for growth for years to come.

Known as a “family oriented community of progress and growth", strong community support and involvement with the local school district are hallmarks of life in this city.  Despite its rapid growth, Hutto maintains the small town charm for which it has become famous.  Hutto is known to local residents as the “Center of the Universe" due to its easy access to all of Central Texas.

The motto of Hutto Independent School District “Moving Forward, Reaching Potential" illustrates the district’s commitment to meeting the challenges of providing the best of educational services in the rapidly expanding school district.

Hutto ISD currently consists of four elementary schools (Cottonwood Creek, Hutto, Johnson, and Ray), one middle school (Hutto Middle), and one high school (Hutto High).  The newest school, Ray Elementary, opened its doors in August 2007.  Additional school campuses are on the horizon and renovations to the high school are currently underway.

On the Texas Education Agency Academic Excellence Indicator System for 2007, Hutto ISD earned on overall rating of Academically Acceptable.  Hutto Elementary was recognized by TEA with a Gold Performance Acknowledgement for improvement in math.

Hutto Middle School received Gold Performance Acknowledgements from TEA for attendance, writing, and improvement in math.

The Texas ACT Council honored Hutto High School with a 2007 College Readiness Award.  This award recognizes high schools that have demonstrated significant improvement in the college readiness of their students by the scores on the ACT test for the past five years.  Only 79 schools in the state of Texas received this honor.

Hutto High School, known as the Hutto Hippos, is currently a 3A school in the UIL ratings.  The Hutto Hippos enjoy strong community support and participation in all of their activities.

The tax rate for Hutto ISD is currently $1.41 per $100 valuation. Home prices in Hutto are very affordable compared to buying real estate in Austin. New homes start in the low $100's and there are many builders in the area including D.R. Horton, Capital Pacific, and Main Street to name a few.

Hutto ISD and the Hutto community look forward to the growth and expansion of the Hutto area and are committed to maintaining the strong sense of community and small town charm in this rapidly expanding, dynamic city.
