You bet you have a choice! Unfortunately, the drug companies want to make the choice for you and convince you that acid reflux without Nexium is not really possible. Why? Let's look at some facts, shall we?
MSNBC reports that over 13 billion dollars are being spent on those "colored" pills, which are prescription acid suppressants.

The medical name for them are PPI's, or proton pump inhibitors. Nexium, Prilosed, and Protonix are a few of their formal names.

Stopping the enzymes that transport acid from the acid secreting cells into the stomach's linin is their only purpose.

Do they work? You bet they do. They may even give you temporary relief, but are the side effects they worth it? Wouln't you much rather treat the cause instead of the symptoms?

Then we have H2 blockers. A few of their names are Zantac, Pepcid, and
Tagamet. These are histamine blockers.

Histamine stimulates the stomach cells to produce more acid when needed. These drugs are very good at what they do as well.

If you are familiar with the way the human body's digestive system works, you know that acid is needed for proper food digestion. Nutrients that are needed to feed the body and give you energy need that acid to break them down so they can be distributed throughout the body.

What happens when the digestive system is interrupted like that? You guessed it, poor nutrition and lack of energy set in.

Most people do not realize that the drugs mentioned above are very habit forming. If taken for extended periods of time, there is a very good chance you will become addicted.

Just a few of the long term side effects are:
  • Increased risk of hip fractures (more than likely caused by impaired calcium absorption).
  • Increased risk of acquiring a food-borne intestinal infection.
  • Increased risk of bacteria overgrowth in the stomach and small intestine (responsible for some of these risks: pneumonia, stomach cancer, and vitamin B12 deficiency).
Both kinds of acid suppressors are prescribed, but Acid Reflux is not caused by overly produced acid, but by LES (lower esophageal sphincter) valve failure. This is the valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach.
So again the question is presented: Acid Reflux Without Nexium: Do You Really Have a Choice? You be the judge!

The more knowledge you have about acid reflux, the better armed you are in your fight against it. To gain more knowledge, flex that finger and click here to find out more about Acid Reflux Without Nexium.
