How do you go about surprising the mother of your child on Mother's Day? You wife runs the household, she makes most of the decisions about the routines of the children. If you are stumped on what your wife would appreciate done for her on Mother's Day, hopefully this article would help.

You love your wife, you spoil her on your anniversary, Christmas.. but when it comes to Mother's Day, showing her that you care can be just as easy as it is on other occasions, such as your anniversary, and your wife's birthday. You want her to know how special she is to you and the kids, there are so many things you can do, that you can't buy in a store, that means so much.

Here's a list of suggestions I hope helps, and maybe some of them might be just perfect for you.

#25 Plan in Advance.

The first tip I'm going to give you, is plan the weekend events in advance. If you plan on surprising your wife, you have to be a few steps ahead of her, and arrange things at least a week in advance, so get out that digital calendar and treat this event like a venture that needs careful planning.

#24. Clear schedules.

Arrange to have the kids clear the weekend events, so they are available to you for what needs to be done. No planning on girlfriend boyfriend dates, no sports, get Sunday off work, and come home from University for the weekend. Give everyone a heads up, Mother's Day weekend in coming, and we're going to make mom happy, by being there.

#23. Order the flowers ahead of time.

If you are going to plant a garden, or thrill mom with fresh cut flowers, believe it or not, Mother's Day is the most widely shopped for day next to Christmas, if you don't order the flowers, or helium balloons early, you won't get any. SO go to the florist, or shop online, and per order the flowers to be picked up by Friday or Saturday, because they won't be open on Sunday, and put it in your calendar to pick them up.

#22. Get the groceries for your special dinner by Friday.

Saturday you're going to be busy painting fences and cleaning the garage, so get the special treats on your way home from work on Friday Afternoon. Buy mom's favourite treats, like chocolate, cookies, muffins, crackers and cheese, her favourite wine. If she loves lasagne, either buy a frozen one, or order one from a pizza shop-if you can cook then get the ingredients early, so you don't miss out. Don't forget her favourite beverages, like her favourite herbal tea, or soda. You can also buy her favourite TV dinners to last her the following week to let the pampering run all week long.

#21. Get Supplies.

Painting the fence, cleaning the garage, making the yard sparkle takes tools, and supplies. Make your list of the supplies you'll need during the week, and pick things up at the hardware store early in the week so you are prepared with the kids to get things done on the weekend without the bother of stopping because you ran out.

#20. Service mom's car.

Call the mechanic by Monday afternoon the week before Mother's Day. Or even the week before that. Getting mom's car detailed, cleaned, serviced takes an appointment, so you need to get a handy appointment, and be able to schedule your time and hers around it. Having her car done before the weekend will make mom happy, and feel appreciated.

#19. Make Reservations.

Plan on taking mom out on Mother's Day takes reservations. If you plan on taking her to her favourite restaurant, you had best call a few weeks in advance, to ensure they are able to take you. Would be pretty sad to show up and get rejected or have to wait for a few hours to go for supper. Call around and make a reservation and add that to your calendar, so you aren't late for supper.

#18. Get the kids organized for special events before the weekend.

Have the kids make moms cards, schedule her ecards, make the decorations, plan what they want to make mom for breakfast or make her special DVD before the weekend. So they have time to schedule it in between homework and their busy lives. Getting them finished early makes for a stress free weekend for you.

#17. Take the kids shopping on Thursday evening.

Take the kids out by Thursday evening the week before Mother's Day, so they can pick mom out a gift. If you are planning on buying her a gift. Take them to her favourite store, that sells candles, aromatherapy bath oils, and personal to mom items. If you know what size she likes you could even buy her a gown to wear out on Mother's Day, or have the kids help you pick out the flowers, going to a garden center and picking out a hanging basket of flowers, or a flower box filled with blooms for her balcony is a great place to start.

#16. Take time to build something with the kids.

If you can fit it in, bring the kids into the garage, show them some  patterns of birdhouses, birdbaths, or even a wind-charm, that they can help you make. Spend the week after work with the kids hammering, gluing and painting, making something special for mom. Put it up with the kids on Saturday evening, and she will be surprised with tears, at how sweet you are to her.

#15. Get bath oils ready.

Candles, bath oils, bath salts. Make sure mom is stalked up on her favourites. When she is enjoying breakfast in bed, run her bath, and put rose petals on the floor leading to the bath. Light her candles, make sure you have her favourite music cd, or make her one, and let her take her time in the bath before she is ready for her special day. You can also do the same for bedtime.

#14. Relieve mom's stress.

Take charge of the house. Make a to do list and pass them out by Friday, so everyone knows what they have to do before the weekend comes. Rooms cleaned, toys picked up, trash taken out, yard duties, car cleaning, paint the deck, paint the fence, garage cleaned up, bikes put away. Everyone has to have a piece of the duties, and we want mom to be happy with no stress on Mother's Day so spring cleaning will be great fun. Send mom out to the spa, or lunch with her sisters or friends on Saturday afternoon, so you can get those things done without her seeing it.

#13. Gives moms' dog a pet grooming.

You could get moms dog (pet) taken to the pet groomer and get their nails cut, have a hair cut, a good shampoo and de-fleaing. If your mom's dog is white, you can get their hair dyed pink on the ears, and ankles, or something really cute done to surprise her. Even have a photo done of her pet to surprise her for her wall.

#12. A portrait.

You can get the kids together and get a really nice photo taken for her. Taking photos at the beach, or anywhere outside, always looks natural and beautiful. Especially if the kids are active and hardly together at the same time, get some good photos taken and make her a nice frame to go with it, and surprise her.

#11. Get mom a digital photo frame.

Those make such lovely gifts, especially when you make her a really good DVD with photos showing mom's love to her family to the tune of her favourite music. She can play it while she's cooking, or relaxing, or just misses you guys when your out, and she's alone.

#10. Movie night.

Go out and rent or buy her favourite movie. Make sure the kids and everyone are planning on a movie in night with mom, get plenty of munchies, all moms favourites, and even offer to cook scallops wrapped in bacon, or her favourite snack and put her feet up, and cater to her, not letting eth kids ask her for anything, you stay on your feet and stay two steps ahead of her.

#9. Leave her in peace if she needs it.

If mom would rather be alone for a while, let her be. Take the kids out to the movies, or the park, and let mom have some time to relax and be alone. Especially if the lil ones are home all the time with her, giving her space might be the kindest thing you can do for her.

#8. Don't let mom cook.

For heavens sake, don't let her near the kitchen. Get some take out, (not burgers or pizza, get something yummy that's a meal, from a tavern or nice restaurant and get a meal), or buy things you can cook, and take care of all the details, and tell her not to worry about a thing. If you can get rid of her for a little while, get her to visit her mom for a coffee, or have the kids occupy her, you could make her candle lit dinner, and get the kids to dress respectable, have the house sparkly and surprise her with a beautiful dinner at home. Or a barbeque, remember to get the tank filled the week before and the steaks by Saturday, or you might miss out.

#7. Get her favourite dress dry cleaned.

Moms take care of everyone else and put themselves last. She will work hard to make sure your suits are clean, the kids don't have holes in their jeans, but they always leave themselves till last. So take her favourite suit, coat or gown to the dry cleaners and have it done for her.

#6. Get her favourite music.

And put it in her car. After you and the kids clean her car, or you take it somewhere to be cleaned, and you get a pretty smelly put in it that she'll like, for the final touch, pop in her favourite music, artist, and don't tell her. When she starts her car up she'll be thrilled to discover the cd playing her favourite tune.

#5. Encourage a fight free zone.

Get the kids involved in wanting to make mom's day special. Get promises not to fight, argue, squabble, nag, or mope on mom's special day. Let's be on our best behaviour, and give mom the bestest day ever.

#4. Plan a family day out.

Planning a family day out takes work dad, it doesn't happen magically. If you want to take her to the zoo, or surprise her with going to church mass, or to dinner, or the museum, you have to take charge and plan ahead. Not just in pre-ordering tickets, but what the kids will wear to. You should have them bathed, and ready by Saturday night. Pick out their best outfits, check to make sure they are clean, they can find their socks, their shoes, what they need by Friday. Not the night before. You don't want to get stressed out and be so tired you can't stand up by Sunday, filling in mom's shoes is harder than it looks, and we want you to enjoy the day to, so plan everything in advance so it's easier for you.

#3. Don't forget batteries and charging.

Dad's who want to take photos and video mom's day can't do that if the damn machine dies in the middle of everything, so don't forget to charge, and buy batteries.

#2. Baking.

Moms are always thrilled by her family baking her a cake, cookie or muffins. Nothing smells better in a house then cooking smells in the kitchen, and when it's made by someone else it smells even better. Don't forget to clean up every detail including sweeping the floor when your done, mom will not really be that happy if she has a big mess to clean up afterwards, you are a grown up to, and can clean to a sparkle like everyone else, so make sure you clean up the kitchen and leave it the way you found it.

#1. Love

The number one thing you can do for your wife on Mother's Day, is love. Show mom you guys love her, and appreciate her for all she's done for you with love. Hugs, smiles, and even jokes to keep everyone laughing is best. Writing her poems, love letters, home made cards and gifts, and telling her you love her is the best gift a mom could ask for.

Have fun, and hope your wife has the bestest Mother's Day ever.
