Is your heartburn raging out of control when you are trying to sleep? Would you give anything for just one night of uninterrupted sleep? An acid reflux bed may just be what you need to achieve your goal.

There are several companies that advertise what they can an acid reflux bed, but in all actuality, they are just adjustable, hospital style beds. Research has found that when they designated a bed to be an acid reflux bed, they feel comfortable in charging more for it. If you wish to purchase one, that is up to you but wouldn't you rather spend that money on other things? There are less expensive ways of achieving what those expensive beds advertise.

Let's discuss a few of those ways.
Place 4 to 6 inch risers under the head of your bed:

These can be purchased almost anywhere, even mail order. When you raise the head of your bed like this, it places your body at the required 8 to 15 degree angle so gravity can help keep the acid from refluxing. The downside to this is that your partner my not be comfortable sleeping at that angle.

There is also a bed that is heavily advertised that adjusts not only the head of your bed, but the foot too. Some also lets each side of the bed be adjusted independently as well as the firmness of the mattress. This would be ideal, but again, it is cost prohibitive. for a lot of people.

Use an acid reflux bed wedge:

These can found readily on the internet or in your local medical specialty stores. These do the same thing as raising the head of your bed, but allows your partner to lie flat if they so desire.

Wait 2 to 3 hours after you eat before you go to bed:

This makes the most sense, and is also the least expensive.

Keep a food diary:

Find out what foods trigger your acid reflux, and, for a while at least, delete it from your diet, especially in the evenings.
Now that you are more informed, you can answer for yourself whether or not a designated acid reflux bed is worth it.

God Bless!
