I became a Christian the year I turned seventeen. The following summer I worked along side another toddler teacher during Vacation Bible School.  The teacher I helped was a mother of five, and she taught me a great deal about teaching toddlers.  Every chance I had I would work alongside of her with the toddlers.

I was excited when my first assignment at Bible College was to teach a toddler Sunday school. I prepared the lessons and crafts on my own.   I was grateful for the lessons learned from that young mother in my home church.

My second year of college brought a new assignment, hospital visitation.  We were instructed to select floors and randomly visit patients.  My stomach was in knots, when I boarded the school van for the hospital that first week.  I decided to go to the children's ward, since I was more comfortable.  It broke my heart to visit so many children without their parents beside their bed.

The second week I boarded the van for the hospital, I was less apprehensive about my assignment for the semester.   I anticipated meeting new children and deliberately searched for children alone.  I wanted each child to be able to say they had a visitor for a short time that day. I was enjoying my visit with a ten-year-old girl sick with an infection, when she suddenly caught me off guard and asked, "Why are you visiting me?"

“Jesus wants me to visit you," I said, biting my bottom lip.

      "Jesus?  Who is He?"

It gave me joy to share how much Jesus loved her.   I told her that Jesus wanted me to not only share His love with her, but to show it to her with my visit with her. She was an inquisitive child and before I left, she prayed and placed her faith and trust in Jesus as her Savior.

What happened during that visit stirred within me something I would not fully understand until years later.   However, in the weeks that followed, I found myself sharing Jesus with each visitation. I saw several more saved that semester, and others just hungry for the truth.  I discovered that as my excitement of sharing the gospel increased, I was able to move out of the children's ward and into the adult’s ward as well.

By the time I graduated from college, I had seen people of various ages and backgrounds put their trust in Jesus. I loved what I was doing, but was still unsure of what the Lord was seeking to reveal to me.    I was convinced that my spiritual gift was teaching.  It did not occur to me that I might have another gift as well.  It was my husband who pointed out to me that I had the gift of evangelism as well.   He told me since I share the gospel and people respond positively, it was the Lord’s way of revealing to me that I had this gift.   Now that I understand my gifts, I am thankful that the Lord has called me to "Go and make disciples" as well as "teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you".

My personal testimony.  Scripture quote from Matthew 28:19-20 (NASB)
