"There is a New America every morning when we wake up. It is upon us whether we will it or not" Adlai E. Stevenson Jr.

Yes very true how many times have we awaken each morning and found a feeling in our hearts to change all the evil in the world and work constructively to bring about an America that lives in our distant dreams?

Idealism isn't always impractical for we all have an live by our own ideals and dreams. However when we limit our dreams to say personal endeavors which will benefit only us individually or our immediate family we then separate ourselves from the family of man "so to speak"

All religions teach of love and compassion for our fellow human beings. Why is it so hard to accept a complete stranger as a friend? Oh of course it's only natural to act defensively to all those we meet for the first time in our lives.

An experience I just went through when buying a used car. When I walked into the car lot I was greeted by complete strangers (salesmen) they offered a hand shake which I did shake the man's hand only it wasn't a very positive handshake. I found myself on the defensive immediately.

Now this salesman was only trying to make a living and he did give me a good deal on the car.

What we must realize is we are all good in nature it is simply the reality of how our system forces us to cross the line at times and live beyond the golden rule.

We are not only Americans but more importantly human beings if we could all unite with our common grounds. i.e. the fact that our dissimilarities are only superficial. We all have to meet our natural needs, it's going beyond our natural living to our spiritual living.

hi david, so true. when i thought about "Why is it so hard to accept a complete stranger as a friend?" i realized that back in the 70's, i made 3 friends, who were complete strangers, in a time when that didn't matter, and they are all still my best friends today. trust is an important thing, if you are lucky enough to find it. thanks for a good article, best regards, sue
