Fluoride - Some interesting facts
"The first
occurrence of fluoridated drinking water on Earth was found in
Germany's Nazi prison camps. The Gestapo had little concern about
fluoride's supposed effect on children's teeth; their alleged reason
for mass-medicating water with sodium fluoride was to sterilize humans
and force the people in their concentration camps into calm submission."

USAF
Major George R. Jordan testified before Un-American Activity committees
of Congress in the 1950's that in his post as U.S.Soviet liaison
officer, the Soviets openly admitted to...
"Using the
fluoride in the water supplies in their gulags (concentration camps),
to make the prisoners stupid, docile, and subservient."
Fluoride,
or Hydrofluorosilic acid (H 2 SiF 6 ), is not naturally occurring but
is a waste by-product derived from the industrial manufacture of
aluminium, zinc, uranium, aerosols, insecticides, fertilizers,
plastics, lubricants and pharmaceuticals.
It is also a Part II Poison under the UK Poisons Act 1972 ranking in toxicity above lead and just below arsenic.
Fluoride
is one of the basic ingredients in both PROZAC (FLUoxetene
Hydrochloride) and Sarin nerve gas (Isopropyl-Methyl-Phosphoryl
FLUoride).
American toothpastes containing fluoride are by law obliged to state, '"WARNING: Keep
out of reach of children under 6 years of age. If you accidentally
swallow more than used for brushing, seek professional help or contact
a poison control center immediately."
Sources of fluoride
include: fluoride dental products, fluoride pesticides, fluoridated
pharmaceuticals, processed foods made with fluoridated water, and tea.
The tea plant especially seems to absorb large amounts of fluoride and
the more mature the leaf the more fluoride. Young green leaves less so.
Research
by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a respected Washington-based
research organisation suggests that boys exposed to fluoride between
the ages of five and 10 will suffer an increased rate of osteosarcoma,
(bone cancer) between the ages of 10 and 19.
Although
osteosarcoma is rare, accounting for only about 3 per cent of childhood
cancers, it is especially dangerous. The mortality rate in the first
five years is about 50 per cent, and nearly all survivors have limbs
amputated, usually legs. The EWG has asked that fluoride in tap water
be added to the US government's classified list of substances known or
anticipated to cause cancer in humans.
The Scientific American
study, completed January 2008, "Concluded that fluoride can subtly
alter endocrine function, especially in the thyroid gland that produces
hormones regulating growth and metabolism."
Article in the Lancet on neurotoxins by P.Grandjean and P.J. Landrigan; 8 November 2006. "Fluoride is a toxin and harmful to the brain and spinal cord."
Sulfuryl
fluoride is a colourless, odorless gas recently legitimized for stored
food fumigation, i.e. grains, herbs, dried ingredients such as powdered
egg etc. The following is a quote from the Fluoride Action Network site
"It is now acceptable for fumigations to produce fluoride residues of
70 ppm "in or on" all processed foods (except for the processed foods
otherwise specified), 130 ppm "in or on" wheat, and 900 ppm "in or on"
dried eggs."
As to sulfuryl fluoride's
toxicity, the primary target is the brain. According to the Californian
Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment its effect is
vacuolization of brain sections. This means holes in the brain.
Published
research by Dr. Phyllis Mullenix shows a build up of fluoride and
permanent damage to the brains of animals exposed to moderate levels.
Offspring of pregnant animals showed marked hyperactivity (ADD) whereas
adult animals with the same dosage displayed sluggishness or
hypoactivity.
Fluoride interferes with the uptake of iodine
crucial for the regulation of hormones and is believed to be
responsible for the high incidence of under active thyroid in
Birmingham UK, a fluoridated area for forty years. The region topped
the UK's 'fat list' in 2003 with 22 percent of the population
classified as clinically obese.
Sixty percent of the US water
supply is fluoridated where an estimated 13 million women have been
diagnosed with an under-active thyroid, and drugs used to treat
hypothyroidism were the second most prescribed medication in 1999.
Aluminium
is routinely added at water treatment plants to remove suspended matter
and small amounts inevitably reach the public water supply. Aluminium
and fluoride combine easily to produce aluminium fluoride. Elemental
aluminium cannot pass the blood-brain barrier but the compound
aluminium fluoride can. Aluminium fluoride is poisonous to the kidneys
and very poorly excreted. Aluminum salts in the brain are associated
with Alzheimer's Disease.
A series of epidemiological studies in
China have associated high fluoride exposures with lower IQ. In Sihong
County, Jiangsu Province, China, higher drinking water fluoride levels
were significantly associated with higher rates of mental retardation
in a group of 512 children 8 - 13 years. (IQ <70) and borderline
intelligence (IQ 70-79).
The proven association of fluoride and
water fluoridation with increased hip fractures is well documented and
indicates a three-fold increase over unfluoridated areas. Fluoride is
the most bone seeking element known to man and is cumulative in that
the body cannot remove it. Fifty percent of ingested fluoride is
deposited in the bones. Initially it appears to make bone denser but in
fact over time there is a marked increase in the ratio of fluoride to
calcium making bones very hard, brittle and porous, with a reduction in
tensile strength so that they easily snap.
The National
Academy Of Sciences (NAS) stated in 1977 that, for the average
individual, a retention of 2 mg/day would result in crippling skeletal
fluorosis after 40 years.
What makes fluoride so
poisonous to humans is that approximately half of each day's fluoride
intake will not be flushed out. This is what makes it so dangerous.
Toxicologists are fond of saying - "The dose makes the poison." Well
there is at least agreement that in a healthy individual the kidneys
will be able to eliminate about 50 percent of daily fluoride intake.
The rest will be permanently absorbed into calcareous matter, like
bones and teeth.
If you live in a fluoridated area, drink
several cups of brewed tea, or consume soft drinks and food prepared
with water from a fluoridated area, you could easily be consuming 10
litres of fluoridated water every day.
Scientists are wary of
publicizing any adverse effects as the resulting litigation would cost
billions and probably run for decades. So we find ourselves in the
usual place where our health is concerned; faced with doing our own
research and due diligence.
Many European countries including
France, Germany and Switzerland have now banned the dumping of
hydrofluorosilic acid into their drinking water. But oh dear. At the
very moment the devastating consequences of too much fluoride are
becoming all too evident in the USA, Alan Johnson, the current Health
Secretary has announced that he wants every family in the UK to have
fluoride added to their tap water,. One has to wonder if he hasn't been
drinking too much fluoridated water.
