Are you a person with a hidden talent and holding back because you feel that others will mock what do you? If you like to sing, then you must bellow out those tunes, if you like to dance then you must tap those toes. Why deprive the people who want to hear or watch what you have to offer. Before I became involved with writing articles my favourite past time aside from reading books was to doodle on paper. I left school at 15 years of age with no qualifications or degrees; it was the idea of having some pocket money to my self that helped make up my mind not to go in search of opportunities that could have doubled the money in my pocket.
If you are a person like my self who likes to design then I urge you not to give up on yourself and continue to follow your dream, if your dream is to become a designer in whatever sense go for it. If you are good at what you do, then your work will be noticed. As mentioned earlier I have had no learning in the field of design but that never stopped me from putting pen to paper to create. Okay many of you with qualifications who went onto to further study in a design will think my creations shoddy, but I would still like to share with you some of my designs. Picked at random out of hundreds of designs I have involving sport - bridal - tatoo - hats etc, here are just a few.
If you believe this is what you want to do and you are destined to be a fashion designer you can start by reading fashion magazines for ideas: if you want to be the next Donatella Versace then you must not lose focus. Working as a fashion designer can just as well mean supervising a design team.
To create your own label takes a lot of time, dedication and toil. However anything is possible if dedicated. All famous designers started this way.
There are many ways to embark upon a fashion career. Most people find that the best starting point for a design career is to get a fine arts degree in fashion at an influential school which aside from teaching you the craft will also add credibility to your resume. In today's society most employments require paperwork with information about you and your capabilities. I have always strongly believed that you can not judge a man/woman by a piece of paper. Many an ideal candidate have lost hope through this whether it involved the stacking of shop shelves, taking down notes in a solicitors office or that of creative design. At this particular moment I choose to ignore my own opinion on judging peoples capabilities written down on paper, because in design this approach speaks volumes about your talent.
Fashion design courses usually last three to four years. During that time you will take fine arts classes and study sketching drawing, colour composition and form. You will also learn pattern making, draping and cutting techniques and more. This type of tuition schools are of the utmost importance to help you reach your goals. The advantages are great if you are enrolled in a design school because they work really closely with the fashion industry. One very important event is the fashion show at the end of the last semester, when graduating students show their collections. Remember this can be a time of make or break because many important people related to the fashion industry attend these shows to scout fresh new talent. Bear in mind that the media will be closely following these events so go mad and have your designs scream out at them The beauty of being a fashion designer is not just about drawing and showing your work in belief this is all there is to it. Success comes from knowing the business inside out. Many Stella McCartney's declined to venture forth and snubbed their dream purely because of this "Do not give up".
Sadly, in the fashion world the creativity factor is not enough to become a designer, you have to know about the business side of thing, it's important to be conscious of the business climate and understanding the nuts and bolts that goes on behind the scenes. Scrutinize trade papers like "Women's Wear Daily" the information in journals as such will prove to be very valuable at your time of learning. Do you dream of owning your own fashion company, if so, go get it the worlds your oyster. To run your own fashion company you will you need to be extremely organized and learn at least the basics of economics. The good news for the up and coming fashion designers is that most fashion schools are presently increasing business lessons in their curriculum.
Please don't be one of those people who look back and thinks of what might have been and if only you had done this and that.
