There are so many unfortunate people who have been victims of violent crimes. Millions. A world filled with rapes, beatings, torture, shootings, bullies, drugs, drug Lords, gangs, robberies and more. We hear about them, other people have gone through them. Now we can see for ourselves on a show, "I survived." I could never watch it, but my partner did, and told me, as I told him not to, how one woman got stabbed over 20 times, along with other atrocities, and lived to tell about it, even getting her throat slit twice.

There is no doubt that evil lives in the people who tortured her. And there is no doubt that she was humbled, and that God's mercy awaits her. This is the way I believe, and I have absolutely no proof that it is real, or valid, but the God I believe in gave us freedom to make our own choices. Those boys made their choice to do what they did, now, this woman has a choice to do what she is going to do in this world. But mercy will be shown to her and her family, if not in this world, in the next. Where evil lies, there is mercy for the humble. God will show His compassion and forgiveness, kindness, charity and generosity.

He will show it to her attackers as well, if they choose to accept it, only they're probably going to have to do a little penance first! And it won't be Hail Mary's and Our Father's. There are those who lie, cheat and steal. The Acts are easy enough to commit, but is the penance worth it? And why don't these robbers and rapists think about that? Maybe they have no conscience, or maybe they are just pure evil. I don't believe anyone who lies, cheats steals, rapes, mugs, or beats is going to walk straight into Heaven as they take their last breathe. To walk through life with evil in your soul, in my opinion, doesn't go unnoticed. Where Evil Lies, There Is Mercy For The Humble.

Too bad the kids who like to light cats on fire, couldn't get the same sentence when they are caught. Let them see what it feels like to have their hair burn, and their skin, just like those cats. Or how about the animals walking around in their natural habitat that are target practice. If people had a built in mechanism telling them what is right, and what is wrong, it would be called a conscience! And if someone doesn't possess a conscience, I believe them to be evil. I know one isn't supposed to judge, and I do a pretty good job not doing so, most of the time, but when people act in a way that you know they have no conscience, there is no room for them in my life. Just knowing they are evil, and staying away from them isn't judging them, it's just not wanting to deal in evil.

Evil people are usually self centered, egotistical, jealous, and insecure people. They want what others have, they're never satisfied with what is their's, they need more, even if it belongs to others'. A girl could be at her friend's house, and spot a sweater she'd really like. When she's in the room alone for a minute, she stuffs it in her purse. Her friend returns, and they talk as if they've been best friends for years. But that sweater's going home with someone other than it's owner. Where will this girl wear this sweater that her friend won't see it? She goes to a different school, and knows she can get away with it. No remorse, no conscience, potential for evil if she keeps acting as such. Where Evil Lies, There Is Mercy For The Humble.

And there are millions of humble people who live life in the best way they know how. They are kind, considerate , trustworthy, honest, caring and understanding. I know how I live my life, and my beliefs border on the side of humility, not evil. I have never done anything out of evil. I may have gotten mad, and yelled, and screamed in times of frustration and total despair, but it wasn't coming from an evil point of view. Mad, damn straight, but never evil. As long as their remains good and evil, our world is doomed to be full of heartache and pain.

There are no straight, truthful answers. There are no compassionate feelings. There are many manipulations, and plenty of grief along our travels. However, it doesn't have to affect us, as hard as that may be. We don't have to let down our guard of humility and truth and pride and caring and love. We just have to be more careful who we allow into our space, and once their trust is won, we've usually made a friend for life. I have 7 girlfriends and we've been friends for 20 years and more. Never had a problem between us. We need to be grateful for such pleasures, and just be happy we have such good friends.

The humble may be pushed around by the carriers of evil, but God knows the truth, and He'll never let us down. Do you think He's going to pick the evildoers over the meek and mild? Do you think He's going to give any notice to those who hurt and take and want even more? It may not happen here on Earth, but I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that repentance will come in the end. You don't embarrass people, and lie to them, and take from them, and then what? Say your prayers at night? Everyone will have their fair turn with God in the ever after. I may have made mistakes, as we all have, and i'll make some more, but I don't deal in evil, and where evil lies, there is mercy for the humble.

Susan Thom is the mother of three children, two sons, 17 and 21, and a daughter 22. Writing calms her, and gives her a place to go. By herself! Clears the head and gets it out. She lives in a rural area, with a lake and mountains, her son and her partner, and has loved writing since she was a child.

She certainly hopes you enjoy her take on life, and her style of communicating that in stories.

She has been on a journey of self discovery for twenty years, and has learned many things about the human mind, and how to maintain some semblance of calm and peace within.

If someone reads one of her stories, and relates to her feelings, and maybe gets a suggestion on how she dealt with them in a positive way, that would be the ultimate gift of her writing.

Great Article Sue...My son is a police officer in the city of Newark, NJ.
You can't make up the horrors that occur there. Maybe things will change someday, but probably not in my lifetime. Kimberly

hi kacy,
thank you for reading and responding.
i believe in a review, where God has nothing to do with it-we go through every second of our lives in this review, and feel how we made others feel, both good and bad. that should do it!
best regards,
sue

Hey Susan. A lot of depth here. I do believe there are people in this world who are just plain evil, but you certainly are not in that number. Keep up the Good Fight...

Hey Sue -- As I read this, I felt your emotions. I don't understand evil either but it sure lurks the land. You and I are the same age and I bet you never experienced the violence in high school that roams the schools today. Our "getting in trouble" differed from the getting in trouble of these days. I may be wrong, but as Laura is getting older, I opt not to punish her but want her conscious to work on her - it doesn't make sense to me to take away any privilages if she'll wind up doing the same thing next week.... Good work, Miss Sue!

hi judi,
thank you for reading and responding.
yes, once we know right from wrong, the conscience takes care of a lot! i didn't do many things when i was in high school because of things my mother had told and taught me. and then again, i did do some:)
my best to you,
sue
