Some one asked me what I tell myself
during times like this when I am low?
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
I will praise You as long as I live, Lord.
To my dying breath I will sing praises to You.

I do not put my confidence in powerful people,
or in people who talk as if they have all the answers.
I have learned the hard way there is no help for me there.
When they stop breathing, they return to the dust
and in one moment, all their clout comes to an end.

All of the truly happy people I have known are those
who kept their focus on You, not on their circumstances.
You are the One who made heaven and earth,
the sea and sky and everything in them, Lord.
You are the One who keeps every promise,
even if it is forever, long after I am gone.

You are the One who gives justice to the oppressed
and food to the hungry. You even free the prisoners!
You open the eyes of the blind and lift the burdens
of those who are bent over with the weight of them.
You protect the foreigners among us, Lord, and You
care for the widows and the orphans in need, Lord.

I know You love the righteous, Lord - those who seek
after You instead of wealth, fame or fleeting fortune.
I'm grateful that you frustrate the plans of the wicked
and comfort those who are taken advantage of by them.
You will reign forever, Lord, and You're in control always,
even when it feels like the world is spinning out of control.

I'm so glad You are You, Lord.
