Decorating small spaces can sometimes seem like a daunting task. However, you can make any space seem larger with easy, practically foolproof tips and techniques.

Make the Walls Go From Dark to Light

A small, cramped living space will feel more spacious by lightening the walls. The brightness can be emphasized by a darker accent wall in the same room or in an adjoining entryway. Choose an accent wall opposite a window and have the adjoining walls be at least three shades lighter. Jewel tones used in decorating small spaces will liven up a room by adding warmth and coziness and are a good choice for an accent wall

Creating Reflection with Mirrors

Mirrors are what you might call a "tried-and-true" method of opening up space in almost any small room. By adding a large mirror or a group of mirrors to a windowless wall, you reflect light into the area and create the illusion of windows. Positioning a mirror at the end of a hallway or stairway will make it appear longer. When decorating small spaces, be mindful of choosing mirrors that will reflect attractive objects. Refrain from placing a mirror directly across from an area you don't want to highlight, such as a waste basket or laundry room

Use Multitask Furniture

To get the most out of your square footage when decorating small spaces, select furniture that contains storage space. Coffee tables are a good example. Choose one that has shelving or a style that has a lid that can be opened for storing magazines, books and throws. A storage bench for the hallway is a good choice since it offers a place to sit while removing shoes while also providing a place to put them.

By incorporating these decorating small spaces ideas into your decorating plans, you will make the most of your small rooms with new color, mirrors and furniture.
