Many times I have asked this question. Why would God listen to me? Why was I so important for Him to stop what He was doing and listen to my request?

In the darkest time of my life, I did not believe that He would listen to me or even answer me. I didn't know who He was at all.

"If any of you needs wisdom to know what you should do, you should ask God, and he will give it to you. God is generous to everyone and doesn't find fault with them. When you ask for something, don't have any doubts. A person who has doubts is like a wave that is blown by the wind and tossed by the sea. A person who has doubts shouldn't expect to receive anything from the Lord. A person who has doubts is thinking about two different things at the same time and can't make up his mind about anything." James 1:5-8 (GW)

"Those who know your name trust you, O Lord, because you have never deserted those who seek your help." Psalms 9:10 (GW)

"But if you look for the Lord your God when you are among those nations, you will find him whenever you search for him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you're in distress and all these things happen to you, then you will finally come back to the Lord your God and obey him. The Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not abandon you, destroy you, or forget the promise to your ancestors that he swore he would keep." Deut 4:29-31 (GW)

These scriptures really put it into perspective for me. God is here with us at all times whether we believe it or not. He hears our cries and listens to our hearts. He grieves when you grieve. He rejoices when you rejoice. How amazing is that?

We should never think that God will not hear our prayers. Now, if you ask for a million dollars I can almost promise that He will come back and tell you to earn it. I have asked this before…and I have heard Him tell me this. The thing is…He was not only asking me to earn the money myself but He wanted me to earn His trust back.

You see, I was a complete wretch. I did not have what it took at that time in my life to be blessed by the Heavenly Father. Yes, He blessed me in little things…He helped me to survive what I went through, but in my lowest point, He brought me to a place where the only place left to go was on my knees.

I had to learn to trust Him, to believe Him. You can believe IN Him and not believe what He said in His Word. We have to believe that God hears our prayers. We have to believe Him and His Word and then everything will fall into place.

I am not saying that all you need to do is get on your knees one time and ask Him for something. You need to be persistent with it. It took me 10+ years of prayer to finally get a break in my finances. Why did it take that long? Because through it all, God was showing me who He was in my life. It only broke when I decided to relinquish the reigns and follow His lead.

Jennifer Johnson is a Christian who wants to bring truth and knowledge of Jesus Christ to the world, to expose the wiles of the enemy, to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to stand on the firm foundation of God’s Word. She is a counselor of sorts as she is not a doctor and does not have a degree but she is one who wants to offer herself, based upon God’s Word and her painful experiences, to those in need of spiritual, emotional, physical, and financial healing.
