You would think that offsite backup services for data would be expensive and
geared towards large to small business. No longer exclusively the benefit of
those with a supporting bank roll, offsite
backup services can be taken advantage of anyone with a PC, Mac, or
Laptop.
The web has given new backup technologies the reach consumers by
providing them the means of connecting from anywhere there is an internet
connection. Weather at home, hotel, or coffee shop with a hot link. You can now
backup your important data ensuring you have recourse in the event of data loss.
What happens in case your laptop is stolen, a hard-drive failure, water
damage, accidently deleting a file or entire folder? Most anything can happen;
you put your data at high risk, especially if you don't have a backup system in
place. Now with solutions affordable, available and in most cases automatic,
there's no excuse for permeate data loss.
I was at a trade show recently
asking those attending what they had planned to do in the case of data-loss. It
interesting; the types of answers you get from people. The smarter ones had
subscribed to a back-up service; some did make good effort to make redundant
copies to an external hard-drive, CD or DVD. However, many others responded
saying they had nothing important on their computers to backup. What? Nothing
important!
I find it hard to phantom that someone would even own a
computer and not think twice of losing the data residing on it. Unless all you
do is play solitaire, why would any risk losing your pictures, music, tax
information, phone numbers, spreadsheets, bookmarks, email, operating system
configuration, etc…
What do you have planned when data loss happens to
you?
