If you chose to phase in a simpler life or jump right in and eliminate 50% of your commitments, decide to do something today that will build momentum and bring an immediate result. Consider reducing your intake of media, this is to reduce the have more, life bigger and be busier influence of our society. By silencing these outside sources you will start hearing your inner voice and developing deeper connections to what is important in your life.

The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak. Hans Hoffman

Decide how important a simpler life is to you right now. What is it that you want and need right now? Visualize you living a simpler life. What would you be doing? How would you be feeling? Would you look different? Now what is necessary to get you living this visualization? Decide to do what is necessary now so you can start living it now. Make a change, or series of changes, that will render immediate results.

Reduce the influence of media. Advertisements are looking for your wallet. The news is looking to increase your anxiety level. Close the door on this influence. Replace it with things that build you up, improve you, relax you, make you smile, and bring clarity of thought. As you start replacing the influence of those who do not know or care for you with things that make you a better you, you will start hearing your inner voice and developing deeper connections to what and who is important in your life.

With any change of habit and slowing down in life you are going to feel uncomfortable and maybe even bored at first. But do not give up on simplifying and slowing down, once you start reconnecting with what is important you will start filling in those bored times with more meaningful activities and behaviors.
