Bungie Jumping. Sky Diving. Rafting. Amusement Park Rides. There is an energy rush that comes with adrenalin. At times our regular schedule leaves us craving a jolt on the weekend. For many adrenalin junkies we spice up our mundane schedule by adding chaos which triggers daily doses of energy from adrenalin instead of finding more meaningful work and healthy energy sources.
"Life changed after that jump...I'd suddenly stepped to the highest level of daring, a level above even that which airplane pilots could attain." Charles Lindbergh , describing his first skydiveUSaviator (1902 - 1974)
When I was in 2 nd grade my dad taught me how to fly an airplane, no landing or take off, just in the air. When I was 10 my dad taught me to drive sand rails (or dune buggies). He taught me to race and beat his friends then advised me to "act like a lady" when I got out of the car. I really want to try sky diving, but I have to say no since I am now a single mom.
There is a fun side to adrenalin.
For those of us with the soul of a daredevil, but the responsibilities of a single mom, adding adrenalin to our daily lives can seem to meet our needs. As we rush from place to place, solving all problems, leading a work team, and washing lacrosse uniforms our busy-ness gives us a charge of adrenalin. It feels good to get so much done, to be so valued, to be SUPERWOMANuntil we hit the wall or get sick. It is at this point that we have to admit the adrenalin charges from our chaotic lives can not possibly be as much fun as jumping out of an airplane.
We learn that finding meaningful work and healthy energy sources during the week is far healthier.
We learn that finding the adrenalin jolt on the weekend is far more fulfilling.
