I've got my plane ticket for my vacation to the great state of Maine. I'll be flying out from my current residence here in northern Florida on July 30 th . I am originally from the state of Maine and I have many relatives and friends living there. I have been living here in Florida for over ten years now. I vacationed in Maine last summer and I am looking forward to getting back there this year.

I have a niece whose husband's stepfather is blind. I correspond with him on the computer, he writes short stories and poems. I went on a cruise with him last summer while I was in Maine. A cruise from a port on the Portland docks, the cruise was approximately 3 or 4 hours long.

I told him I wanted to go again this year so he is all in favor of another short cruise. Although I have to guide him along while were walking he does very good for himself he is very independent despite his disability.

Backward state, During the 50's, when out of state people would refer to the state of Maine they would say such things as Maine is the backward state, being only a child back then it would hurt my feelings when I heard such harsh comments made about my home state.

Best state to raise children, Although Maine is growing in all aspects in a survey on the best states to raise children Maine came in # 1 of all 50 states.

Cold winters, Yes, the winters are cold however living here in Florida during the winter months I kind of miss really bundling up and walking in the cold air. It does get somewhat cold down here during a Florida winter although I've never had to cover my ears with my hands down here, which I use to do many times during a Maine winter.

Excitement, besides the cruise, there are many other things I want to do such as going to Old Orchard Beach where there are roller coasters and all sorts of rides. Yes, these attractions really bring out the child in me.

Seafood, Of course, another well-known facet of Maine, what she is well known for is her seafood. I do intend to eat my fair share of lobsters, steam clams, crab meat, just to mention a few of the many delicacies on Maine's menu of fine foods.

Hi David, Last summer my family spent our summer vaction in New England. One of our favorite memories came from Maine. We were in a little beach town enjoying the boardwalk arcade when we discovered a "claw machine" in the back corner. Instead of the usual cheap toys and candy or stuffed animals, this one was filled with water and had live lobsters in it! Classic Maine!

Hello Jean, yes I remember when you and your family went on vacation last year. I've never seen one of those claw machines you speak of. It must be expensive if you can get a lobster from it. "thanks for commenting"
