We are a few days away from the summer stale tv that comes in the summer months. With a shortened tv season because of the strike, you may be finding yourself disappointed in the quality tv you have absorbed this year.Your shows are finally getting good and now it looks you have to wait an eternity before you find out what happens to your favorite characters. Well, I can't take the wait away, but the tv execs have decided to try and provide some quality programming in the meantime. Here are the shows (in no particular order) I don't think you will want to miss this summer. Get ready for reality television at its finest.
High School Musical Summer Session
This show hosted by Nick Lachey will air in July on ABC. The show is hoping to capitalize on the popularity of the High School Musical movies. This competition series is for 16- to 22-year-olds hoping to take center stage and be a part of the "High School Musical" phenomenon. Hopefuls will compete in a series of challenges while at a conservatory, presumably for a chance to appear in the franchise's next film (or at least on the soundtrack).
Family Foreman
This show airs in July on TVLand. I normally would leave cable shows out but this sounds very interesting. It could be because I am from Houston or the fact that I am fascinated how families live with lots of children. The show will look at the home life of George Foreman, heavyweight boxing champ, preacher and low-fat grill spokesman, as he raises his 10 kids, half of whom are named George Foreman.
Greatest American Dog
This show is aimed at the dog lovers in the world. Owners and their pets will live together and compete in a dog-training competition with $250,000 on the line. I can see how this will be popular for dog lovers all over. The show will premiere in July on CBS.
Celebrity Family Feud
This has the capability of being the best show this summer. Who doesn't love Family Feud? Add to that getting to see the families of celebrities and how they interact? The breaker will be the celebrities that play. I mean will it be A-list celebrities or those no one have ever heard of. Celebrity families will compete for charity in this Al Roker-hosted prime-time edition of the long-running game show. Some families will consist of one celebrity plus their real-life families while others will be fictional families from your favorite shows past and present. The show will air on NBC.
The Baby Borrowers
This is a long awaited reality series from NBC. Over the course of three weeks, young teenage couples will fast-forward through what their entire lives together would look like, first as they take care of infants, then toddlers, tweens, teens and ultimately senior citizens. The show airs in June.
America's Got Talent
Who can forget last year's ventriloquist? David Hassellhoff, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne will return as judges this season, ultimately rewarding $1 million to the person they deem the most talented. Airs this June on NBC, worth checking out if you missed last season.
Celebrity Circus
This, too, has the possibility to be great dependent on the celebrities. This new competition series will take a group of celebrities and have them train with a Cirque du Soleil-style troupe in a variety of death-defying circus acts with viewers determining who stays and who goes home. The show airs in June on NBC.
Nashville Star
This show moved to a Major Network for the first time on NBC and improves its judges with the addition of Billy Ray Cyrus as a judge. For its sixth season, country crooners will compete for a chance to win a major recording contract as well as an opportunity to perform at the Summer Olympics in Beijing. It is like the country American Idol.
The Next Food Network Star
This is a cable show, but well worth watching. I was glued to this show last year as Amy overcame all obstacles to win. Bobby Flay will move as a permanent on the show as a judge. Ten contestants vie for a chance to appear in their own cooking show on the Food Network. Only drawback so far is I have yet to see last year's winner on the network. What gives Food Network?
Million Dollar Password
Who doesn't remember Password? Regis Philbin will host this revamped show with special celebrities who will help contestants win the big prize. The show will air in June on CBS.
This year's selection has the capability to be entertaining. So spend some time inside this summer in the cool air and enjoy some new shows. There are also some new dramas that may entice those into week-to-week sagas on the screen. For now, though, don't be upset that your shows are ending, but embrace the new.
