When it comes to the environment one thing, I can say and this is true. Ever since I was a child, I had a very conscientious attitude when it came to protecting the environment. As a child even when I walked on the sidewalk, if I would open a candy bar, I would crumple and put the wrapper in my pocket rather then throwing it on the ground.

When I reach my teenage years, I went through some rebellious times, when driving my car with friends. Drinking and driving if one of my friends would throw an empty beer can out the window I would yell at them and say, "don't throw your beer cans out the window!"

Yes, I was not all that well behaved in my adolescence however, I would not pollute the environment. When I was released from the military in '69 I was all for these demonstrators who would stand up against the big air polluters in those days.

I do not belong to any group or club such as green peace but I do respect those who stand up for what is right. In addition, trying to save the planet is the right thing to do.

A quote from Margaret Meed: " Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

The mission of green peace

Mission statement
a courtesy of wikipedia encyclopedia

On its official website, Greenpeace defines its mission as the following:

''Greenpeace is a global campaigning organization that acts to change attitudes and behavior, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace by:''

*''Catalyzing an energy revolution to address the number one threat facing our planet: climate change.''

*''Defending our oceans by challenging wasteful and destructive fishing, and creating a global network of marine reserves.''

*''Protecting the world's remaining ancient forests and the animal, plants and people that depend on them.''

*''Working for disarmament and peace by reducing dependence on finite resources and calling for the elimination of all nuclear weapons.''

*''Creating a toxic free future with safer alternatives to hazardous chemicals in today's products and manufacturing.''

*''Supporting sustainable agriculture by encouraging socially and ecologically responsible farming practices.''

If we all behave indifferently about these issues, well perhaps our children won't suffer as much as our grandchildren will. Protecting our environment is essential if we want clean air for future
generations.

Clean air is only one category in our fight to save our planet Earth. We must also protect our oceans from oil spills, and show concern for our wildlife, and the environment they inhabit.

I came across a web site from a very conscientious man by the name of Dr. Erik Leipoldt he is a baby boomer who was left paralyzed from an accident he had while diving into the Indian Ocean. He has always had a concern for the environment. He spent over half his life in a wheelchair. His web site has many helpful hints on how to protect the environment and he has included facts on global warming. It is titled "Alternate Energy Sources For A Flourishing Future" To view his website click here

David, you make some excellent points. I find that many people, including myself, too often close our eyes to protecting the environment, and we should be thinking of doing just that for the future of our grandchildren and their children. Thanks for the very good reminders and for the information you have provided. Good article!

hi david, great article. you reminded me of a time in my teens, when you could walk into a grocery store, or bambergers, or epstein's, or the movie theater with a cigarette, and put it out on the floor. and i'm talking rugs! at least that has been abolished. i've never been one to litter either, and taught my kids not to do the same. the world is too beautiful a place. thanks for sharing, and making me think,
best regards,
sue

Yeah Susan, the world is our home. We should treat it with respect.
