Besides the obvious reasons such as belly buttons and bodily functions, God never ceases to amaze me at just how funny He can be at times.
Most recently, I laughed so hard at this story out of New Zealand which makes you just have to look up and tell God that now he is showing off for everyone.
You see when two New Zealand pilots ran out of gas while in the air, they thought their life was over. As Christians, they began to pray for a safe landing. Who are they kidding? Even non-Christians in that situation will start praying.
Anyhow, the two was able to land safely, but it was what they landed by that just makes me crack up. Grant Stubbs and Owen Wilson were flying up the sloping valley of Pelorus Sound when the engine spluttered, coughed and died.
Stubbs told the Associated Press that he prayed during the ill-fated flight that the tiny craft would get over the top of a ridge and that they would find a landing site that was not too steep - or in the nearby sea. Wilson said that the pair would have been in deep trouble if the fuel had run out five minutes earlier.
"If it had to run out, that was the place to be," Wilson told the AP. "There was an instantaneous answer to prayer as we crossed the ridge and there was an airfield - I didn't know it existed till then."
After Wilson glided the powerless craft to a landing on the grassy strip, the pair noticed they were beside a 20-foot-tall sign that read, "Jesus is Lord - The Bible."
They both started cracking up laughing. Who wouldn't crack up laughing? That is hilarious! What better way for God to capture their attention that day then to give them a near-death experience complete with a plain as day sign at the end of their journey?!? I love it!!
There have been several instances in my life when I can just picture God looking down on me and laughing. I think about the time I was dating my future husband and so wanted to impress him while flying down to visit him in his home town.
I put on a skirt that was way too short and totally out of my comfort zone in an effort to turn his eye. God had the last laugh as I stepped out on those stairs from the plane only to have a giant wind blow my skirt straight up. Of course, it had to be in front of the entire waiting room of passengers at one of the largest airports in the country. Everyone waiting for their flight and loved ones got to see my skimpies!
Got the lesson, God-Thank you!
I love the fact that God has a sense of humor! I love that the most. If you can't laugh, then why live! My favorite verse in the Bible is in Psalms 126 after Israel makes it back to the promise land or Zion. It says:
"When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter. . . "
I love that visual-"mouths filled with laughter." It is the moment that we laugh, that we know we are ok. I think God gives us laughter for that very reason. Stubbs and Wilson felt that and couldn't help but laugh!
Thank you God for surrounding us with humor and filling our mouths with laughter!
As for Stubbs and Wilson, townspeople gave them gas to make it back home in one piece to share the story of a lifetime!
