When anyone is starting a business, the money just isn't there for a big splash and an all out effort to get your name in print. However, there are certain things that a business can do, that will generate advertising and get people talking about your business. As everyone in the business field knows, the best advertising is 'word-of-mouth advertising, getting someone to talk about your business and having the name mentioned in conversations is a plus for any business.
These are the first things that a business owner would want to put into their advertising package that will help to generate a lot of free advertising for them.
Business Cards
Make sure that you always carry business cards with you and hand them out freely. If it isn't in your budget to go to a printer to have them made, You can make them yourself and get business card blanks and print them out. This way you can print them as you need them.
T-Shirts
Either make your own shirts using your computer and transfer paper or go to a Printer and have a few shirts, sweatshirts or jackets made with the name and phone number of your business on.
Have family and friends wear these for you so that your name and advertising is seen around town.
You can also add your name to canvas bags to give as door prizes at your Presentations and workshops.
Newspaper
Every time that something new happens in your business, such as you receive a certificate, are recognized for something or have made some kind of an achievement, write a Press release and send it to your newspaper for printing. This is free advertising!
Website
Every business should have a website, even if all the information that is on it is:
The name of your business
how to reach you,
where your business is located,
the times that you are open
and a list of the items that you sell.
A well worded page will pop up on the internet in a lot of different places, make sure that you use a program like 'Wordtracker' to look for the best keywords for your site in order to rank higher.
Network
Join groups and associations, that help to get the word out about your business. Make sure that you always give away those business cards, as people ask what you do and where you work. Joint ventures with other businesses are always advantageous for both parties.
Business Stationary
This you can make up yourself on your computer. Just create a letterhead that has the name of your business, the address, city and state along with the zip code. You will also want to include your business phone number and any other contact information that you use for your business, such as a cell phone number, email address etc.
Email Signatures
Include a signature that will be, automatically placed, at the end of every email. This should include, your name, address, website title and url, email address and telephone numbers.
Now add a few small ads in area shoppers (inexpensive advertising compared to display advertising) and your name will start to appear all over the city.
