I have been doing a search for the latest research in wrinkle removers and came across a scientific study into a substance known as Beta Glucan found in porridge oats. This substance is already known to have many benefits for maintaining a strong healthy immune system and protecting us from illness as well as being great for stress. Now it is thought to also be great on the skin as a wrinkle reducer! Effects noticed after just 8 weeks.

I shall begin eating porridge and using a home made oat face pack and will let you know if this really is the cheapest most effective wrinkle remover on the planet. I have tried a load of other shop bought wrinkle remedies with NO good effect, so we'll see how this natural cure for that age old problem of age reduction!

Meanwhile here are the links to support this post, one is the scientific findings for Beta Glucan in relation to wrinkle reduction and the other is a link to other known benefits of beta Glucan.

It certainly wouldn't be worth the beauty industry letting this information become general knowledge given the inexpensive nature of the product - so don't expect any to see any news releases on this any time soon, but I shall keep you posted if I find some.

Here is a recipe for a face mask which includes oats, this will be the one I'll try.

Great and informative article, going to catch-up on some of your other articles. Like your work thus far. There are a lot of things right in our kitchen or health food stores that can help with the visible signs of aging. We really don't have to use as many chemicals now. I found that raw unrefined shea butter (the gold shea butter) is a great wrinkle remover and brown spot remover. It is also a great sunscreen. Love what you have found about oats. As a raw food vegan, I do eat soaked oak groats as cereal in the mournings. Hmm? Maybe its helping me reyouth? Great article.

Hi Camille, Glad you liked the article and thank YOU for that tip re the butter, I shall track that down and give it a whirl. Re the oats, I have since made a milky oat face pack by cooking some oats and water and then sqeezing the moisture out through a tea strainer to create a watery milky paste. When cool, and applied to the skin, my oily skin immediately became dry and very soft light wrinkles did 'iron out' though this effect was temporary. I haven't discovered the long term effects yet. Meanwhile my other foody tips are: I use Manuka honey +10 as a spot remover. I apply neat to my spots for about 2hrs and then remove with a wet wipe. Spots are dryer and reduced. Manuka honey has antibacterial properties and is great too for stomach upsets, sore throats and minor burns. I use 99.9% aloe vera gel too for various things, once for a friction burn and the healing process was rapid after applying it. I once read that eating marmite prevented mosquito bites, so now pharma companies are trying to create a tablet form. And to my great delight I read an article that said baked beans (if you buy the low in salt and sugar variety) are great for the immune system and overall health, containing protein, folic acid, iron, fibre and much more besides. They now reccommend them at least once a week. Good news for my little boy who prefers these to green veg! Back to oats for a moment, apparently these are also great for the immune system and will prevent illness if eaten daily. They are good for preventing feelings of stress too. A good mood food. Bananas and milk before bedtime enhance sleep - great tip for parents of youngsters who want a late snack.
