What would have happened to the United States of America if all of her factories were in Japan the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed?
On December 8th, 1941 America awoke to a pretty big problem as there were no resources to manufacture rubber. As America geared up for war time production the car factories stopped assembling cars and retooled to manufacture tanks and jeeps. The airplane industry turned its might to creating warplanes for the biggest push in industrialization in history. Belts, bullets, band aids, batteries, binoculars and any object you could think of manufacturing was stopped for the civilian sector. Everything that was created by the United States industrial might was done so for the sole purpose of supporting the war effort. If you were to spend a few moments doing research you would be astounded by how much and how fast was produced. In shipping alone the United States developed the ability to build a liberty ship (441 feet long) from the keel up in just one day. Deep research revealed that even some sources today dispute this and say four days, but the reality is ONE day.
Imagine that, America turned to its manufacturing might and assembled the largest military force in the world in less than one year. What the casual onlooker fails to note is just how much is needed to outfit one soldier. They need everything from medical shots to underwear to eyeglasses to a rifle. The list is actually amazing if you were to spend a moment and ponder the requirements needed for an entire army.
Let us fast forward to present day America. As of 2009 the United States of America will not have the manufacturing might to create ONE LIGHT BULB. All light bulbs will be made overseas. Clothing? Sorry, America does not make that anymore either. In reality America does not manufacture much of anything at all anymore. We now have virtually all of our factories overseas.
What does this mean? Well, let's go back to December 8th, 1941 and assume all of our factories were in Japan.
In short, The United States of America would have lost the war and as a nation would be in the history books with the Roman Empire. If you do not think it can happen today then you are not a history fan. America needs to wake up and bring industry back to America because it will not only generate more jobs, it will help secure our nation. Back in 1941 American production was almost crippled because there was a massive shortage of rubber for all the vehicles. As a result of that shortage silly putty was invented as the search for alternatives was being pursued. What the ironic part is that silly putty is not even made in America anymore.
