"Unconditional war can no longer lead to unconditional victory. It can no longer serve to settle disputes. It can no longer be of concern to great powers alone. For a nuclear disaster, spread by winds and waters and fear, could well engulf the great and the small, the rich and the poor, the committed and the uncommitted alike. Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind." John Kennedy

In this country, we have the right to believe what we want to believe. If some of us believe in God and some of us do not, fine, that is simply our prerogative. One thing we do all agree on is our rights instilled upon us as citizens in this land known as America, the supposedly land of the free.

Most preachers believe they are doing the work of the Lord by preaching the Bible to the people. They are very persistent in trying to get their message across. They can also be very annoying at times when listening to their sermons as they preach hell fire and all the consequences we as sinners will have to face if we do not live by the teachings of the Bible.

Actually, so-called sins we as a people are accused of committing such as stealing, and fighting amongst ourselves are considered as un-Godlike behavior. Yet there are preachers who will go out in a war zone and serve right alongside our service men doing the fighting.

Our service men are praised for fighting for their country. Do we consider ourselves the good guys fighting the bad guys? e.g. we kill our enemy in God's name no religion to me should show any favoritism to any one race, religion, or nationality over another.

I do have a strong belief in God however, I do not believe it is his will that we kill each other in senseless wars. I believe the Muslim world can be negotiated with. We will not hear our political leaders talking this way for they know they themselves could not negotiate with an enemy with strong religious beliefs. They would rather use force and do battle with our foe.

In their speeches, they tell us we are right to engage in battle with other nations. If these preachers truly want to do the will of the Lord let, them preach to our representatives who brain wash the people into believing war is necessary.

I served in Vietnam in the late 60s I was only 19 years old at the time I didn't know any better then. Today I am a lot wiser and I can see the war in Iraq and Afghanistan as senseless.

hi david, amen. this was so well written, and hit the spot. when i flip through the channels at night, and stop at nancy grace for a few minutes, she shows pictures of our "boys" who have died that day, and i can't even watch, i have to turn the channel. when will someone like john, or robert kennedy, or martin luther king, come along again and help this planet realize that senseless killing is not the answer, but words speak louder than actions? thanks for sharing,
my best,
sue

Hi Sue.
The solution to get the wars to end, stays with me. I say me because, everyone always say we have to do something or they have to do something. When am I going to do something about it? When I rely on someone else to do something I pass the responsibility to them, and I can stand back and wander who will do something. We put people in place to do the job, and they don't always succeed.
Do they always know what we expect from them? I don't think so.
I will say this politics and religion has never solved any problems, and will never, because the differences are to big between them. We have to leave the politics and religion and look at humanity and what we are doing to the planet and each other. When I do not destroy the planet and tread my fellow human like I what to be treated, It will become contagious. So it starts with me. To unite by start with me........

David, Excellent article and passionately stated. My brother was a Lieutenant and Company Commander in Vietnam and he would agree with you. You state it eloquently when you say "our service men are praised for fighting for their country. Do we consider ourselves the good guys fighting the bad guys? e.g. we kill our enemy in God's name no religion to me should show any favoritism to any one race, religion, or nationality over another." However, often in the name of religion we have those on the religious right condemn entire groups of people including all Muslims, Catholics and gays. These are the pastors such as those who are still singing the praises of Reverend Rod Parsley who calls for the extermination of all Muslims! Then we have Reverend Hagee who denounces Catholics as the religion of the "great whore" and who blames Hurricane Katrina on a "gay pride" parade to be conducted by the gay community in New Orleans! Can't we all just get along? Can't we at least try? It is God's people who should be the first to embrace the concept of reasonable and fair diplomacy with other nations regardless of our feelings about them. How ironic that it is often those who embrace no religion who believe as you do. Thanks for an eye opener. Take care.

I stand for what you say 100%.
We are against war, and that does not help. Mother Terresa was asked to attend an anti war rally to show her support, she declined and relpied, host a peace rally and I wll atend. You see the minit you give the negative energy, say war. You simlpe find a way to say it without saying the word war. eg; iknow that peace is the answer to freedom.
then the word believe, people change their believe on a daily basis, let say I know God. By knowing someone, it will never change, and the belief will chage. You see, change is the only constant we have.
Lets unite for freedom, love and joy knowing God!
