It's summertime in Texas, but don't fret the sweat - go to the movies! Whether you want to see the latest summer blockbuster like Indiana Jones or an obscure art house film, the DFW metroplex has many theater options to choose from.

The major chain theaters have basically the same amenities and are tucked in and around shopping centers. Although beware of locations attached to a mall if you want to avoid the throngs of teenagers now that school is out.

If you are looking to combine dinner and a movie, the Movie Tavern has multiple locations (throughout Fort Worth, Arlington, Bedford and Denton) and they offer a full bar and menu right from your movie seat! The menu consists of basic bar food like nachos, burgers and salads, complete with charming movie-influenced names such as the Godfather and Goodfella pizzas.

If classic, independent or art house films are more your speed, then there are plenty of options for you as well. The Magnolia in Knox - Henderson [where: 3699 McKinney Ave, Dallas, TX 75204] and the Angelika Film Centers in East Dallas [where: 5321 East Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75206] offer a modern theater experience with stadium seating and digital sound to showcase many independent and foreign films. The Magnolia also resides in the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth's Cultural District [where: 3200 Darnell St, Fort Worth, TX 76107], where museum members get a discount on the films they offer at the museum on Friday, Saturday and Sundays.

There are also more historic theaters such as The Inwood in North Dallas [where: 5458 West Lovers Ln, Dallas, TX 75209], which has won many local awards throughout the years, including Best Movie Theater. There have been a few renovations, including the addition of the Living Room theater that has couches, chairs and beanbags instead of the standard seats. The Inwood also has a bar - with great martinis - that you are now able to take into the theater with you!

For the big and bold experience of an IMAX screen, there are three locations in the metroplex, one of which is the Omni at the Fort Worth Museum and History [where: 1501 Montgomery St., Fort Worth, TX 76107], as well as the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science in South Dallas at Fair Park [where: 3535 Grand Ave, Dallas, TX 75210] They offer more of the educational types of films on space or science and often coincide with the latest exhibits. Or at the Cinemark IMAX in Northwest Dallas [where: 11819 Webb Chapel Rd, Dallas, TX 75234], you can take the kids to see Speed Racer or other mainstream movies on the giant screen.

Of course if you are on a budget, there are many "Dollar Theaters" around that still offer the cool experience at a cheap price. No matter where you go or what your tastes are, there's a darkened theater perfect for hiding out from the heat for a couple of hours!
