There are times in every Christian's life when depression causes us to doubt God's Presence is still with us. God does not mind our questioning and searching for proof of His Presence. It is in those times when deep calls to deep in our heart as we cry out to The God who promised He would never leave us or abandon us. The Sons of Korah expressed this so well in Psalm 42, and this week I am relating to it more than usual. It has been an extremely difficult week for me and I am finding comfort in the maskil of the Sons of Korah.
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I see Your face God?
My tears have been my food day and night, while skeptics say to me all day long,
"Where is your God?"
These things I remember as I pour out my soul:
how I used to be with my brothers and sisters,
in the house of God, with shouts of joy and thanksgiving.
Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?
I will continue to put my hope in You,God. I will still praise You,
my Savior and my God. My soul is downcast within me;
therefore I will remember You
and all the miracles You have done in my life.
Deep calls to deep in the roar of Your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers have swept over me.
By day the LORD directs His love, at night His song is with me-
a prayer to the God of my life Who has never left me.
Where is my God? In this room with me, shielding me, protecting me
and pleased that His child is crying out to Him.
