Hear me friend and know full well
The legend is true that people tell
Of bolts of lightning and tolling bell
In the hills at night near Victorville

The howling wind no man can squell
Those voices when the demons yell
For since the day that Satan fell
He made that place the gates of hell

And with a flash the bell will toll
The clouds will clash, the thunder roll
The demons will come and steal a soul
Then take it down into their hole

Wayward souls have disappeared
But only those who never feared
Who thought the legend much too weird
Who laughed, and scoffed and boldly jeered

In nineteen-hundred-and-ninety-two
A woman thought the legend untrue
And what do you think that woman would do?
But disappear without a clue

Why she went, we'll never know
Out to the hills where the Joshuas grow
In dark of night in desert snow
Her footprints end... where did she go?

Ask most folks and they will say
The demons took her soul away
Because that woman did not obey
The words of the legend on that day

So, my friend, if you should stray
And wander off the old highway
Remember the legend and start to pray
That the demons won't come and take you away
