I guess Ian Usher had had enough! He decided to put his life up for sale on Ebay. That's right, according to Usher the highest bidder will receive everything he has and everything he is. He will walk away with only his wallet in his pocket and his passport in his hand. The lucky bidder will receive Usher's home in Australia, along with his car, motorcycle, job and even his friends.
Can you imagine that? It seems that something like this could only happen in our day and age. I cannot help but wonder if Usher's behavior will start some kind of fad. Can you imagine people everywhere saying, "I've had it. I can't stand my life. You can have it... for the right price." The next thing you know people will be putting up their husbands, wives and children to the highest bidder. Actually, that might not be such a bad idea in the case of my....
In any event, it is Usher's reference to "everything he has and everything he is" that has me wondering. In this materialistic age in which we live have we sunk to the depths of believing that our value and identity are what we possess? Is everything that I am equivalent to everything that I own? I think not.
Perhaps Usher is just using a creative twist to sell his home and make some money. Maybe he truly wants to start his life all over again. But, then again, how are we to know? What signals does this send to the millions of youths that surf the Internet? Will they too think that they can just sell out their lives to the highest bidder?
My experience is that no matter where I go... there I am. You can't run away from yourself. You cannot sell your soul. Every person... each and every one of us, is more valuable than our weight in gold. We are priceless. And, I understand that we have already been purchased... at a great price. I believe we have been purchased by the blood of Christ. He died for each of us. What more can we ask for?
