How do you create a list of red hot buyers anxious to be the first to buy whatever you are selling?

Why do you need a list? When should you start thinking about building a list? The answer is, getting a list is the only way to get marketing on the internet. Its about building a relationship with people, helping them, entertaining them and hopefully the trade off is that you are able to sell when you want to and who you want to.

Many folk say that the money is in the list. I'm sure you have heard that. Lets get this clear, the money is not in the list, its in the relationship you build with that list. Its getting people to think, yes I am interested in what you have to say, give me more.

There are a number of list building stategies to think about. You have to get someone to

•    Opt in
•    Receive something from you
•    They have to open whatever it is you have sent
•    They have to take action.

This does not mean that you have to be selling all the time or flogging something to your list. As I said its about building a relationship and adopting a softly softly approach.

Anybody who is thinking of internet marketing will be thinking about how to sell but all you are doing at this stage is getting people to sign up. You have to make it attractive but be honest. There is no point in asking people to sign up and get a million dollars unless it is your intention to give them a million dollars that is and I imagine it probably isn't!

There are a lot of benefits to building a list and its not just about promoting your own or other people's products. You can increase your profile by putting your name out there, constantly being at the front of peoples minds. You can also get in touch with your list, find out what they want or what they are looking for and provide it to them. Its a great interactive tool and a great way of finding out what people really want and if you can find it for them, they will be an obvious target for marketing and selling.

So what do you need to start building a list? Well you will need a domain name and a website to start off with. You need to have something to hang your list on don't you?

Then you need to have something to offer a potential "list joiner". A course, a report, something that actually hooks people in. It has to have value and you have to tell people what they will be getting for their email address (the trade off).

You need to get an autoresponder. There will usually be a basic one attached to your hosting account but it probably wont be enough if you are serious about this. You will need a subscription service like AWeber or someone similar. An autoresponder is a programme that basically automates your messages. So if someone joins your list, they are added to the autoresponder and will get a series of emails or whatever it is you want to send out. So whether they join today ,next week or next year they will get the same message. You set it up once and that's it.

Its simple but like anything else you need to learn how to do it and how to maximise it for best effect.
