Any trip to the beach requires you to bring along the essentials.  Panama City Beach (PCB) is no different.  Here, is our list of must bring items that are easier for vacationers to bring than have to scramble trying to locate them:

1.  Sunblock.  PCB's temperate weather will not keep you from getting burned.  Make sure you bring along an appropriate sunblock that will protect your skin.  At the very least, choose ones that have 15+ or better.

2.  Bring quality beach shoes.  These means bring either top flight sandals or purchase some swim shoes.  The bottom line is not to go cheap here with some inexpensive flip-flops or second rate sandals.  The beach despite its beauty can be an unforgiving place for footwear.  By getting some top notch shoes, you ensure your shoes will last the trip and you will be all the better for it.

3.  Bring Big Beach Towels.  A few extra towels will come in handy as you will always end up needing more than you think.  It is best if you can keep some separated just for the beach use.  These are great for lying out on the beach by themselves or slinking them over a chair for some added comfort.

4. Cooler.  Here, quality isn't that important.  Choose one that has basic rough shell that can do a reasonable job of keeping your food and drinks cold.  Beyond this nothing else is needed.  Wheels we practically be a waste as you will end up having to carry it.  For this reason opt to not pack the cooler that full.

5.  Waterproof Camera.  Leave the fancy camera at home as there is too much risk it will get broken, stepped on, or ruined by water.  Instead, get some cheap disposable cameras which will let you enjoy the trip without much fear of damage to your camera.  There are even waterproof versions designed specifically for beach use.

6.  Protect Your Money.  Guard your money and credit cards by putting them in a waterproof wallet.  These are great for keeping your valuables near and keeping them safe from the water.

7.  Rent When You Can.  One of the mistakes many people will make is try to save money by bringing a lot of beach equipment from home.  This may seem like a good idea; however, it will most often be wiser to just rent equipment at the beach and save yourself some cargo space.  Since the prices are reasonable, there is no real reason not do take advantage.

8.  Bring your favorite reading materials.  Panama City Beach gives you a chance to kick back and read your favorite books, magazines, or the morning paper.  With such a beautiful backdrop, you may find your muse to do your own writing or merely enjoying the fruits of someone else's labor.

9.  No cheap sunglasses.  What I mean here is choose sunglasses that have significantly filtered lens to help block out UV rays.  You do not need the most expensive pair, just something that can protect your eyes from the sun and allow the eyes to adjust from severe light changes like coming out into the sun from darkened hotel rooms, restaurants and other establishments.

After reviewing this list, you may find that there are few more you would add to this list.  That is ok.  This list is designed to start to get you thinking about what your necessities are and is a good working list for items that are a little more of a challenge to find when you are already there.

Thanks, Jim, for the tips. I am not planning a trip to Panama Beach, but will be going to a beach later this year. These tips are great for any summer destination.
