If your computer has been infected with spyware fear not! There are many spyware removal tools available to fix spyware issues instantly. The problem becomes with so many options available how do you select the one best for YOU?

The first and foremost thing to look for in a spyware removal tool is killing efficiency. Simply put you want the program that kills as much spyware on your computer as possible. Two features to look for are a large threat database (the larger the database the more spyware applications that can be identified) and full registry scanning.

The best anti spyware scanners can do both. They should also be intuitive enough to separate harmful spyware, malware, and adware from actual programs you need. You don't want to delete important registry files because that will just create more problems then you started with!

You also want a spyware removal tool that can prevent future attacks by warning you of any harmful files, downloads, or websites that are trying to infect your computer. This is typically called an ActiveX shield, it works as a deterrent against spyware attacks. The best spyware removers run quietly in the background and alert you of any suspicious activities while using your CPU.

Now here is where we separate the newbies from the advanced users. If you don't have much experience in spyware or adware protection, you want a program that has a simple interface and is very easy to use. The more advanced and experienced user can go after the more sophisticated systems that allow more customizable options.

I have created a website - Spyware Fix, that details the best spyware removal tools. I have reviewed some of the best and most popular programs and can tell you specifically which have the features listed above and are best suited for your needs. For more information take a look at my website and find the best spyware removal tool for you.

There is excellent free anti-spyware software available - for most home users there really is no need to pay for either antivirus or anti-spyware software.

One thing to be aware of when choosing anti-spyware software is that some programs that claim to be anti-spyware applications are actually spyware themselves!

My advice is:

a) never pay for anti-virus or anti-spyware unless you have a specific reason to do so.

b) always google the name and company name of any software you're considering downloading - if its dodgy, chances are that the google results will let you know!

Here's two excellent (and free) anti-spyware apps:

Spybot Search and Destroy

Spyware Blaster

And here's two excellent (and free) Anti-Virus programs:

AVG Anti-virus (Grisoft)

Avast! Antivirus

and finally, here's a free firewall :

Comodo Firewall

To get any of these applications, just search for them in Google.

As a general tip, you're less vulnerable to spyware if you use Firefox (with the Adblock and NoScript plugins) than if you use IE, but if IE is generally fine as long as you keep it updated.

In fact, keeping them updated is vital for ALL the above programs - if you don't update them, then they are effectively useless against all the latest malware - so make sure you update them at least once a week, and run scans regularly!

I've worked in tech support on and off for a decade, and have never had a problem with a virus or malware whilst using the above protective measures.
