Last time, we dealt with Beauty Challenge #1 : how to remove hair from your bikini line naturally, and relatively painlessly, from the comfort of your own home. Today, we're going to discuss how to give those white legs of yours (and mine!) a healthy glow with the help of sunless tanning.

Natural Sunless Tanning Solutions

Sunless tanning continues to grow in popularity thanks to widespread awareness of the perils of extended sun exposure, both in terms of skin cancer and aging.

In response to market demand, there are now several sunless tanning solutions that give you a healthy glow, without looking obviously fake or overloading your system with unnecessary chemicals.

My favorite is a certified organic self tan lotion that is suitable for people who may be prone to eczema or psoriasis, as well as vegans and vegetarians. It's also free from parabens, lanolin, phthalates, artificial perfumes, petrochemicals and colorants, proving that you can find natural solutions to sunless tanning, if you so wish.

Top Tips For Applying Sunless Tanners

The key to success when using any sunless tanner is to make sure you apply it properly. Here are some tips to help you "prepare your canvas" and avoid streaks and staining:

1. First of all, I recommend you remove all hair from your legs beforehand. It's so frustrating after successfully applying self-tanner to realize your hair re-growth is showing!

2. The following day, you are then set to exfoliate your skin. This will rid it of dead skin cells, provide an even surface for you to work on and promote a streak-free finish.

3. I recommend both dry-brushing and using an exfoliating product, such as a sugar or salt scrub or a paste of baking soda and water.

4. To dry-brush, take your body brush and sweep it from your toes up to your thighs, before jumping in the bath or shower.

Dry brushing not only eliminates dead skin cells but also helps to improve blood circulation and supports toxins leaving your body. You can then use your exfoliating product to make sure your legs are silky smooth, paying close attention to knees and ankles.

5. Depending on how dry your legs are, you may like to apply a good moisturizer before your self-tanner. In my case, I find the product goes on more smoothly and is easier to manage.

6. If you have a tendency to stain easily, try using some latex-free gloves. Then, apply your self-tanner using circular movements of your hands to reduce the risk of streaking.

7. Do not apply too much (especially on knees and ankles) as this will cause extra darkening effects in skin folds and wrinkles.

8. If you didn't wear gloves, wash your hands thoroughly after applying to avoid coloring your palms.

9. With slow and accurate application, you should now have a nice even sunless tan, which you can maintain by reapplying every 2 to 3 days.

Please note that the tanned appearance created by self tan lotions does not protect you against Ultra Violet Light. It is important to use a sunscreen with an appropriate SPF if exposing your skin to sunlight.
