I have seen on the nightly news tonight how the Chinese are trying to make the air clean for the Olympics. They are going to shut down the big air polluting factories for a couple of days. I remember back in 1971 when President Nixon open the door to China. The first U.S. president to visit China.

Presint Nixon and Chairman Mao

I was on a psychiatric ward in a V.A. hospital. I watched every step Nixon was taking in those days. When he landed at the airport I watched him come down from the plane and was greeted my Chairman Mao. As their limousine traveled down the main street, I noticed many young people riding their bicycles they had a very serene and content look on their faces.

The news media was reporting to us the American people how the Chinese people were living. The girls didn't wear make up on their faces. And they all seemed to be happy and courteous. Kind of skeptical towards the Americans.

Following Nixon's visit, my psychiatrist called me into her office and asked me what I thought about the China trip. I told her "It seems like we were just on the dawning of a brand new day."

The China trip really impressed me a lot of course this was only one of the many stops Nixon made in 72 he was traveling all over the world bringing peace.

Today as I look at the conditions in China. Did we help the Chinese people or corrupt them? It seems we brought or tried to show the Chinese people our way (The American people) of life. Today the young girls wear make up on their faces. They all want to drive automobiles, and make big money.

China Today

Don't get me wrong I'm a proud American; I love my country and the people it represents. Only when I see the wrongdoing in our political system. How money plagues the lives of people in any country. I just can't sit still and take it all in without some kind of release.

Some people have asked me why I don't do anything about it. Actually to change the system within the system takes a great deal of education, which I lack. So I'll vote for the people I believe are qualified to make the changes necessary.

I consider myself a liberal, only again don't get me wrong my idea of a liberal is not one who favors abortion, I am against all forms of abortions. Why I consider myself a liberal is because I believe in change. Even the most hard-core conservatives have traded in their model T's for a more upgraded model.

We see the comfort in sentimental conservatism however we must believe in a moral liberalism. For to live with god's love is not to obey his rules but to know in our heart they were created as tools.

David, change is a constant yet it comes as good or bad and it is driven by good or bad. If the good do nothing then bad will prevail. It is as simple as that. If the good allow what 85% say outwardly is bad, then why do they moan, complain, gripe "why doesn't someone do something about it"? No the answer to real change is in doing but to place any and I will say it again any of these same types back into office, Republican or Democrat produces no change at all and that is a fact by nature of their deeds [as 85% of us recognize] so why do it? Vote against any R & D and you will do two things very definitively a] you will make change and B] you will send a message loud and clear. With best Regards.

hi david,
this was a well written article.
as much as i love my country, i can see your point clearly as that of "is our interference in their lifestyles helping other countries or hurting them?"
look at how hurt our country is. young girls being exploited all over tv and magazines, the worst things they do, the bigger the headline. a 16 year old, who 14 year olds look up to is pregnant. the least amount of clothes, the better, the more tattoos, the more meaningful? the more piercings, etc. maybe we should take care of our own home before forcing our lifestyle on other countries who actually, were doing better without our influence.
i am doing what robert said-not voting for either idiots. they want to be President, that's it. there is no passion to make great changes. can they change gas prices? can they change the fact that resorts and hotels, motels, beaches, boardwalks, are losing money they depend on to live for the year, because of those high prices? can they lower my 8,000.00 a year taxes?
what a mess we live in, and i don't see either candidate helping one bit, and am fearful they will, instead, make things worse.
best regards,
sue

Well Susan, I suppose not much can change as long as we live under our present system. But I'm going to vote for Obama anyway.
