If you are thinking of getting a Chihuahua puppy, you need to be sure you are willing to accept the responsibilities of owning one. This entitles taking care of your Chihuahua puppy by making sure they are given a healthy life in a safe environment. This article will cover some of the most important aspects of taking of caring for your puppy. If you don't think you can handle it, by all means, don't get a puppy.

If you've done any research on Chihuahuas before, you know they have a greater likely hood of developing hypoglycemia, which is basically low blood sugar. It is important to protect your Chihuahua puppy from developing this as it can be fatal in some circumstances. One thing you can do to help prevent this is to make sure you are feeding your puppy throughout the day. Chihuahuas can develop hypoglycemia by having long intervals between meals. It is always wise to ask your Veterinarian to make sure your Chihuahua is healthy.

Something which is often forgotten, or overlooked by Chihuahua owners is the importance of socializing your puppy at an early age. This will allow your Chihuahua to develop an acceptance for others, and should keep them from being overly aggressive. Socializing is allowing you Chihuahua puppy to spend time around other people, and also other animals. You can do this by taking your puppy for outside walks in your community, going to the local pet shop, going to a friends house, or even just riding around in the car; your Chihuahua will be able to see many faces while they are looking out the window.

Some Chihuahua puppies may not be able to eat hard food, and it's is important to make sure they are eating the food you give them. If they can't eat it, try adding a small amount of water to it. This should make it softer and easier for your Chihuahua puppy to eat and digest. If they still wont eat this, consult with your Veterinarian.

I bet you've heard how hard Chihuahuas are to potty-train. The truth is, it is only as hard as you make it, and the best time to start training them is when they a puppy. When you bring your Chihuahua puppy home for the first time they will be curious are wonder around. It is best to keep them from doing so, as they are likely to have accidents around your house. Try to keep them in one confined area, such as the living room, and keep a close eye on them at all times. If you see they are about to have an accident, simply take them outside immediately and tell them a command, such as "go potty". Whatever command you decide to use, be sure you are consistent, and use it every time. This will help your Chihuahua puppy to associate the command with going potty.

Owning a Chihuahua puppy takes a lot of hard work, and responsibility. However, the rewards of having a loving addition to your family makes it all worthwhile.
