You might think that there is only one method of turning one CD into many. Actually, there are two main methods you might use. They are CD duplication and CD replication.
Both methods work wonderfully; it's just a matter of how many discs you'll need to create. Replication is usually used for creating several hundred to thousands of discs, while duplication is used to create batches of less than 1000 CDs.
Replicated discs are also called "pressed" discs. The data is pressed onto the CD. Duplicated discs are more commonly referred to as "burned" discs, and the data is actually burned into the surface of the CD.
There is really no one right answer as to which method is right for you. If you are only printing a couple hundred or less CDs then this is the obvious choice. CD duplication is often less expensive and can be run through more quickly.
There is another key difference between replication and duplication. It's definitely not practical at all to replicate CDs from your home. However, it is possible to duplicate them on your own if you only need to do small quantities. Many home computers come with the ability to burn CDs right there.
If you do need to do it on a larger scale, but don't want to contract the job out to a company you can purchase machines that do the job of duplication more quickly. There are several things to keep in mind if you decide to do this job yourself.
*Store the master discs in a safe place and keep them clean. If you ruin your master discs it will make for a lot of frustration.
*Monitor the speed you decide to burn the discs on
*Choose the highest quality digital media
Some people definitely prefer to burn their own discs, but if taking care of all the odds and ends just doesn't sound appealing to you, you can hire a company to do the work for you. There are many out there that not only do the work of burning discs, they also package and ship them for you if that's what you prefer.
CD duplication is a great way to start getting your name, business, or information out there on a smaller scale than you can do with CD replication. You might consider it as a stepping-stone to more massive distribution. People love getting physical CDs and you can increase your levels of exposure this way.
