Having puffy eyes are most definitely not a sign of beauty, but one of unsightly. If it is beauty you seek, then whatever commitment you have and hold towards the want of having your skin look healthy will be a waste of time. Preserving the skin in hope for the appearance of a beautiful complexion will never surface while puffy eyes are present.

Eyes are more likely to attract attention if they have a healthy twinkle than that of the attention you would get from having puffy eyes. Puffiness around the eyes is common symptom of fatigue or ill health.

Puffy eyes are a regular beauty concern among women. Puffiness is often caused by accumulation of fluids around the eye. You can stimulate the lymphatic system to drain excess fluid by gently using your middle finger to press along the eyebrow and around the eye socket to reduce swelling

Aside from common issues which we normally associate to causing puffiness i.e., crying and lack of sleep, there are also other issues which contribute. Menstruation, pregnancy and eating salty foods can result in puffy eyes. Puffy eyes are of a delicate nature so rubbing can make them puffier. If this problem is continuous talk to your doctor. For what is called normal puffy eyes there are straight forward treatments, however if caused by an infection then you have reason for medical attention. Treatments will vary due to severity of puffiness and to the causes. What works as a cure for one person may not for the other?

Help prevent puffy eyes

  • Rinse the face with chilled water
  • Limit sodium intake
  • Drink plenty of water, this helps clean out your system

Dampen a couple of tea bags and chill in the refrigerator. Place over closed eyelids, this is soothing and affective. Moistened teabags taut the skin and reduces puffiness. The natural astringent in tea - tannin works miracles.

  • Puffy eyes can be the result of an allergy.
  • Eye creams which contain ingredients of aloe and Vitamin E are ideal for clearing puffiness.

Resist the urge to rub sore eyes.

1 If you want your eyes to have a glint of sparkle, mix 2 tbsp water to a glass of mineral water. Bathe the eyes in this solution 3-4 times a day. Try applying a cold compress onto the eyes using a clean flannel dipped in ice cold water. Repeat this at least 4-5 times till the puffs under the eyes drain.

2 A regular method used to rid puffy eyes consists of grated cucumber or potato blended into a fine consistency with all excess juice strained. Pour a cup of basil tea into the mixture. The pulpy mixture is spooned into an ice cube tray to freeze. Dab ice cubes on affected area. Another preferred option is the metal spoon remedy, which relieves irritation and reduces swelling. Place a metal spoon in the fridge for few minutes. The cold rounded part of the spoon is then placed against the eye for a couple of minutes.

3 Soaking cotton wool pads in ice cold milk works well. Locate damp pads over closed eyes and relax.  This is a fabulous method for brightening the whites of your eyes. Ice-cold rose water can be used in the same way.

4 Add a couple of drops of witch hazel to whisked egg whites. Apply to the face and under the eyes with a soft brush. This makes the skin feel tighter and look less puffy. Always be careful so that nothing enters the eye socket.

5 Have your head elevated while you sleep; it helps restrict fluids from settling around your eyes.

Wash your hands after a treatment session with an antiseptic lotion. Never be aggressive towards the eyes as they are very sensitive. To prod vision organs with an alien item can cause severe injuries leading to loss of sight

Conjunctivitis is exceptionally contagious. It is an infection of the outermost layer of the eye membranes, often bacterial but recognized as being viral also. When cleaning the infected eyes, wipe from the nose outwards. Discard tissue immediately and never use the same tissue on both eyes. Wash thoroughly after treating to prevent spreading the disease.

Too much pressure in the eye which damages the eye's nerve is known as Glaucoma. The eye is actually soft but what keeps it solid is it's inflated with fluid (with pressure). Glaucoma is an uncanny disease because no symptoms show to treat. Referred to as the "the thief in the night" because it robs vision over time from the perifory towards the middle. It is vital to have regular eye check-ups, and particularly more so for those in the golden years. The more susceptible to the disease are folks with a family history of glaucoma. Cultural backgrounds i.e. Native American, Hispanic and black habitants are at increased risk and more likely to suffer from glaucoma.

Acute glaucoma although uncommon, attacks fast an unexpectedly. Symptoms show as red painful tender eyes and sensitive towards light. Acute glaucoma is not normally determined straight away. If your sight becomes blurred or hazy and pain is experienced see your doctor.

Glaucoma treatment is specially formulated to lower pressure in the eye that damages the nerve. This can be achieved with eye drops. Laser treatment basically creates small holes to release pressure.

Glaucoma cannot be halted, and any damage already done is untreatable to retrieve a healthy eye. A regular eye checkup is the way to keep ahead of the disease although sadly it cannot be prevented.
