Farmers, ranchers and growers are all finding farm utility vehicles, otherwise known as cargo all-terrain vehicles, to be a necessity in the running and managing of their farms and ranches. Depending on the model, make and options, farm utility vehicles can give the combined advantages of a tractor, Jeep and an ATV resulting in excellent versatility, maneuverability, and utility.

Any farm utility vehicle can easily reach a speed of 25 miles an hour. Farm utility vehicles do not leave any tracks while traveling on wet or muddy surfaces. It is wholly possible to equip any farm utility vehicle in such a way as to enable it to mow grass, haul large amounts of material or feed, plow snow, dump dirt, tow, accommodate a spray attachment while at the same time providing the same comfort and ease of use as a four wheel drive enabled pickup truck.

The diversity of operations of any rancher or small scale farmer rivals their needs. Although tractors can perform a wide variety of functions, they have various drawbacks such as being slow and big, which makes them overkill for most jobs. On the other hand, pickup tracks not being very maneuverable cannot get into and out of tight spots, while all terrain vehicles, though maneuverable and very quick, have a limited cargo carrying capability.

The need of most ranchers and small scale farmers is of a single vehicle which possesses a large number of functionalities. In effect a farm utility vehicle is like the Swiss Army Knife of vehicles. According to most farmers, they need a vehicle which could steer well and run well on all surfaces, at the same time being versatile enough to handle several different applications such as ground maintenance, snow removal, mowing ground leveling, planting trees, lifting pallets and fencing and landscaping. Most ranchers need a four wheel drive vehicle with the ability to carry a co-worker or supplies and also capable of traveling from one site to another quickly.

Farm utility vehicles not only have a huge capacity for various different kind of work, they are also very comfortable to ride or drive. In fact, they are almost as comfortable as any conventional vehicle. Most farm utility vehicles are fitted with rack-and-pinion steering as well as independent suspensions. These features provide a worker-friendly experience. Some farm utility vehicles offer not only forward and reverse motions but also are equipped with hydrostatic transmissions allowing for changes in direction.

The more powerful models of farm utility vehicles are capable of reaching speeds of up to 25 miles an hour. Hence you may want to add a full cab or at the least a windshield. Almost all farm utility vehicles feature tilt beds. The more powerful versions are usually equipped with hydraulic tilt beds, while the less powerful models have manual tilt beds. Also, most farm utility vehicles allow the addition of tow hitches, which enhances their versatility. There is no end to the amount of accessories you can add to any given farm utility vehicle, and in effect the actual challenge you face would be choosing your accessories. So what are you waiting for? Choose your farm utility vehicle now!
